I've really enjoyed the redone Caustic Valley. Each one of my games on that map have turned into a brutal, mobile slug fest. By mobile I mean not NASCAR, but more maneuvering other than going in a circle, whether it's intentional or not. There's always been a combination of long-range combat and short-range combat. Whether my team wins or loses, I shoot a lot and hit a lot, feeling fulfilled each time I play the map.

I'm not sure why people don't like it, it's been nothing but a blast!

I've played the map a total of 4 times since it was redone. You speak of "mobile slug fest", but in my very limited experience (based on the fact that, again, I've only managed to get the map 4 times since it was introduced, because NO ONE votes for it except to play the multiplier mini game). In three matches it was a peak and poke snipe fest. Only match I thin I have won on it, was driving an ECM Stalker with 6 ERLL, while the rest were my usual brawl builds wherein I was able to do middling damage before being killed by enemy long range ERLL/ERPPC/Gauss/L-Gauss and even LRM builds. One match, just about an hour ago, wherein I spent 8 minutes just trying to get into range and was then executed by massed LL and C-ERPPC fire.

There are no paths for brawlers to push that won't result in their near instant demise. The various rocks and such that do give cover are a boon to LRM and ATM play because they are just too short to provide actual indirect fire cover. The map is worse than classic Forest maps, in that within about 20 seconds of dropping you can start hitting the enemy if you have a long range build. Lastly, it's hard to see the enemy or anything else (including the damn, Domination circle). New Cauldron sucks.

Not so. I like this map because it’s DIFFERENT. The golden rule is not to fight in the center, so the map punishes slow brawlers, kind of like the old Polar Highlands. When you don’t fight in the center, the battles are dynamic and fun.

The previous map was bad because it provided a highway around the map, the center was a flat circle where nobody wanted to enter and instead everyone went around and took out the team one by one by the numbers. The valley now seem to be a valley with hills on both sides than the hill in the center and whoever tries to climb the hill dies.

When I got skills to play in previous map, I went to center, where you could easily avoid nascar and get behind enemies (like HPG basement warp). If you slow sniper - you could hide on border with some luck. So it was playable, when you understand rules.

This has been my experience. I haven't played a slow brawler on this map yet, though. Most of what I've taken have been going above 64 kph.

I don't get it either its not that bad a map.. Better than the redone Canyon imo. But then i hated the older Caustic. I enjoy all the new maps except Canyon myself.

New caustic sucks worse than the old one. Played it once last night on dom mode. Couldn't even seen the dam dom marker. didn't help any I was saddle with lrm-erll assults who didn't even go near dom point and it wasn't until 17 seconds left did they move to center of the map.Next time I'll just suicide.

They both suck. Old caustic encouraged nascar too heavily, and new caustic has visibility problems while being an LRM deathtrap. It needs another rework or just remove the map completely.

I'm not a fan of the rework, but the old one was freaking terrible as well. This new one is just another example of Cauldron's favoritism towards long range sniping builds. Plenty of areas around the edges of the map to sit on top of some rock and plunk away at people moving through the rock clusters.

Even with fast brawlers by the time to actually get to engage you're half dead from crossing the killing fields. If you're smart about it you can sometimes sneak around to engage the sniper-fest but usually get drilled with ERLL, PPC, and Gauss fire to the face.

It's just sorta 'meh' for me. Though I hate the visibility problems and not being able to see the damn circle in Domination mode. THAT is a problem.

They aren't changing the maps with their own hands, but they are giving direct feedback on what they want to be done (the patch notes mention this).

new caustic is ******** and most people seem to agree because it never gets picked (seriously I have played less than 5 times total).

Thats actually a weapon issue not a game map issue.. There is a reason Battletech tabletop limits weapon distance..

And that reason is entirely irrelevant here.

The map isn't that bad but the middle is a bit open. There's lots of cool spots around the edges of the map that are a hoot to fight in. If further changes arrive I hope they'll give the center similar treatment; cliffs and canyons and tunnels.

Now that people learned how to actually play the map, game usually happens on the rim. Everything else is pure lunacy as the enemy cuts you with their snipers. Another map geared for assault snipers.

But, I have seen it less then 20 times, I think, since it was "remade", so it is not that bad. It is also less bad then new Polar which was destroyed or the Solaris which is alley shootfest. Sorry I cannot see a thing in that map. I ma not even interested in playing them.

That being said, the old one was actually a fun, but it follows the trend of maps made to impede with moving and to promote more passive, gutless and boring play.

I mean what else is new.

Obviously caustic is one of the less popular reworks, but, every time François even looks at a new map, people here start shrieking like someone's cutting their toes off with a rusty hacksaw. Its widely accepted already that new HPG is vastly superior to the old, but when that rework dropped there was no less than three busy threads full of people lamenting the premature death of MWO (mostly because their close range mplas brawlers now required some degree of forebrain activity to pilot effectively, and people having the temerity to drive snipers was a personal slight to them).

New caustic could use some love still, it didn't quite hit the mark, but its not the black mark on MWO that some people make it out to be, its still a perfectly serviceable map.
