It's not that complex: Do more damage than at least 12 others on either team and most of the time: up arrow for you. Do less damage than 12 others on either team and most of the time down arrow for you. Team damage will hurt your chances for up arrows. Kills, kmdds, scouting bonuses, etc. all increase chances for up arrows.

Yes, I tracked progression from start up to tier 1 recently. Here is the breakdown of games:

Tier 4: About 5 games (didn't track)
Tier 3: Hit at 48 games
Tier 2: Hit at 128 games
Tier 1: Hit at 213 games

So 213 games total for start->tier 1. I agree a better player could probably do it in 150. The weird thing, though, is that PSR gains seem to cap out. I had some 800+ or 900+ match score games in there, and I'm pretty sure you gain the same amount as you do in a normal win.

Yeah, I made it to T1 at 163 matches on an account I placed a few restrictions on. I am sure a better player taking a more consistent match score farmer could get to T1 faster. Full T1 bar took me 236 drops.

It looks like you can theoretically gain as much as about 222 PSR per match, but that relies on having a monster game and your opponents doing nothing. Looking at one of my best matches and running it through the PSR calculator I earned about 51 PSR in an extraordinarily good match where I managed a match score more than double anyone else's on either team.

I'll just repost this here. C+P leaves me with an infinite amount of those:

Sounds like you're talking about one of my alts XD

Let me just say, I took an account from T5 to maxed T1 quite rapidly and it continues to farm. Forcing it to complete 500 matches to get full credit really won't change much of anything. Anyone farming hard enough to make waves in Jarl's should be in T1 quickly enough for this edge case to not matter a whole lot.

Not showing a player until they get 1000 games under their belt would mean an average player would need about 10 months to show up on Jarl's. That doesn't make any sense imo.

Why do you think Jarl's is so important?

I don't think it's important, just a nice tool.

I agree it would be weird if it took that long to show, at the same time stats built while rising in tiers don't have the same value so I think they're a bit misleading before that.

Well you can always ignore accounts until they have 300+ matches if you'd like. Jarl's by it's nature doesn't differentiate by tier, so it someone is barely holding their own in their current tier it probably wouldn't look all that different if the tier was 5, 3, or 1.

The game only rewards those who primarily farm damage and win. You can put a ton of effort into a match get kills, the highest damage etc. and still get negative.

Also, why are assaults, heavies, mediums and light mechs being compared in overall score in regard to PSR together? It's wrong, how do you expect a 25-30 ton to score against a Direwolf etc.

While PSR does reward damage and damage farmers, I can promise you that if you are someone who ‘primarily farms damage’ as opposed to doing your best to kill efficiently and help your team win, you will be the one being farmed in T1. I am averaging around 287MS over this season and the last four. Have never given a f about MS. If you are an assault or heavy who focuses on farming damage so you can average a high MS, you are shark food and I will probably kill you first.

This is what irritates me with this whole PSR thing. Damage is weighted above everything else so there seems to be this trend to load up an assault mech with as many long range weapons as possible and then sit back and snipe or lob LRMs. Meanwhile their team gets steamrolled by a murder ball. Like.. I get that it's a playstyle that can work and sniping can be effective but far more often its just damage farmers that could give a doo doo less about their team. It just seems to promote lame tactics that are centered more on personal score than team work and in a game that's supposed to be about team work... kinda counter productive.

You probably just finished off some dudes who were already about to die. That isn't contributing. As for the other game, you did more damage, maybe you shot down a buttload or missiles or you destroyed a bunch of components. We won't know until you provide detailed match reports.
