So who is having a blast with the ecm urbie? That 10% ecm bonus might not seem all that much but when combined with the skill tree bonus you can get near stealth armor effectiveness without the heat penalty. Seems they got this one right with the hardpoints too since its energy based so no need to waste slots and tons on ammo. Good hardpoint layout too though I kinda wish they split the arm points evenly.

So what fits have you settled on so far? This is my go to fit now as it is very heat efficient and can just pump out constant fire at range.

...or a headache for the defenders, from a different point of view Posted Image

But seriously, this UM-R80 looks like a real gem, and is fast becoming the anchor mech for a massed light flanking push... especially with its -10% target/victim ECM sensor range reduction... and with ECM + JumpJets too...

speaking of the ECM bonus. Can you explain in detail what it does? I could not really make sense of the wording of that specific quirk.

I'm having great fun with that Urbie (beiing an Urbie enthusiast with now 10 Urbies in my hangar)

The ecm bonus reduces the range at which enemy mechs can lock onto you or show up on radar. So you can get closer without being detected. This protection extends to any mechs in your ecm bubble. So with this quirk you can get 55% bonus to enemy target range reduction.

Almost like stealth armor, but without its opportunity costs!

You can get a usable stealth fit too with good heat dissipation. But I prefer the non stealth fit so far.

Dont cripple your lights with std engine. Xl and add some weapons. 5 mpl or 3-4 lppc are nice (various ppc styles possible).

How is it crippled? Can zombie and still have one laser left and 83kph means it can keep pace with the battle. An xl is only 91 kph after all.

Crippled in the sense that you severely reduce your damage output from the get-go because lights run out of tonnage very quickly, and spending it on a STD engine gives you less to work with.

There's no head or CT laser, meaning that once you lose both ST's you can't hurt anybody. You're thinking of the K9. Also zombie'ing is kinda overrated because your CT will most likely be beaten up pretty hard by the time you lose both the LT and RT.

At least use an LFE.

If you want to retain the 5 ERML poker/zombie loadout you could do this:

UM-R80(L)

Engine upgrades to LFE180 while keeping the same heatsink count. Survivability isn't impacted much because as said before there's not much you can do in an Urbie with no weapons and damaged CT.

Personally though I'd rather get some heavier weapons in there at the cost of running hotter and using an XL (I'd give up Stealth Armor if need be).

But you cut nearly half your armor off for the gain of a few kph? I'd rather go 83 kph with full armor and the same loadout tbh. Of course you could go regular mediums and drop a couple of sinks for roughly the same heat profile but then you gimp your range. Dunno man.

As to not using stealth I am running an xl in the first fit and you can wedge in a couple of large lasers and two er meds using xl but the heat profile isn't that good and I find the steady pew of the 5 er meds to work well at the mid ranges it fights. Haven't found a decent 3 large laser fit that doesn't require shaving off too much armor either.

I didn't cut the armor though, other than -2 from the head? I think it looks that way because I had to make it as a custom mech in MechDB (it's not updated yet), meaning that it didn't have the armor and structure quirks of the real Urbie.

I see. I'd still rather be able to live with both torsos gone and at least be a distraction for the cost of being just a teensy bit slower. I could also use endosteel and stick in a higher rated standard but I'd have to drop the jj. I guess we will have to agree to disagree on the details.

I'd still take the extra sink over the extra jj's but thats the beauty of this game. You can play your mech pretty much however you like.

Faster engine (extra 13.5 KPH) & 2x+ jump height vs 1 DHS. With just DHS vs 2xJJ I would probably pick that DHS also but that extra speed also is too nice not to take IMO.

but hey whatever people prefer.

Its a fun mech but as Urbies go its severely limited on dps.. I like all urbies but honestly this is my least favorite Variant.
