Is it really so bad with Assault 'Mechs?

What about taking some fast Assault 'Mech? Blood Asp moves 64 km/h, i.e. fast enough to keep pace with heavy 'Mechs. And the ECM suite helps with the survivability.

Yet assaults are still by far the best performing class in the game. Hmm...

I think you'll be hard pressed to find a heavy 'mech that can carry four LBX-10 ACs, but there's quite a few assault 'mechs that can.

Gotta agree with pbiggz here, this sounds like a you problem. The rest of us can definitely fit more guns on our assault 'mechs.

assault mechs are the highest scoring class with the best win rate in the game. which assaults are you running that you're having this much trouble? We can suggest builds.

Huh. In these days of new/reconfigured maps designed to limit NASCAR, where more and more of late I see groups of mechs just owning the sight lines and hardly even bothering to shift position, I find myself asking why am I bothering running anything other than an assault?

Timber 22,5 Ton free for weapons
Ebony 30 Ton free for weapons

Blood Asp 42 Ton Free for weapons
Atlas 36 Ton free for weapons *LF 360*
Stalker 39 Ton free for weapons *LF310*
COR 40 Ton free for Weapons *LF 345*

See just facts only 12 tons more at best
while you being first to get shot, first to get LRM, first to eat airstrikes, First to be focused fired.
it's a bad trade off for 12 ton

12 tons is a not insignificant tonnage difference for weapons. Again: which assaults are you using that you're having trouble with, because if you keep complaining and ignoring folks' attempts to help you it's just gonna waste all our times.

"Only twelve tons more..."

There's a lot of 'Mechs I run that'd give a whole heckuva lot for twelve extra tons of payload. My Blood Asp can sling dual Gauss rifles with a hex set of cERML, ECM, and still have room for ammo and even additional cooling. heck, I even found room for a(n overloaded) LAMS to help cut down even further on missile nonsense. No Clan heavy 'Mech can come anywhere close to that loadout. The nearest semi-equivalent is the Goose/ERLL Night Gyr H, which carries less Goose ammo, drastically fewer heat sinks, and obviously has no real close-quarters capability. The Night Gyr physically cannot be configured as a Goose/ERML blaster, and no other Clan heavy can either. Jaguars, Timber Wolves, Orion IICs, nothing. You can cram two gauss into slow Clan heavies and get not much else, or you can get ONE gauss into a Clan heavy with comfortable supplements.

Asp? Two rifles, plenty of supplements. And that's saying nothing of the Gigaspike Dire Whales that can dump a 100+-point alpha blap in your gob, or all the Megalodakka assaults that can blow you into modern art in three salvos from their godawful autocannon arrays.

Assaults are fine. Heavies are fine too, but assaults generally going better in the hands of good assault pilots.

Madcat Prime stripped of weapons and equipment has 27.5 tons of pod space, not 22.5 tons as you claim.

As for your other values, it is difficult to validate them without knowing the exact amount of armor.

How can you be the first to be shot at, eat LRMs and air strikes or focused, if you are "your left alone most of the time and you always slow", i.e. always the last one to arrive to the place of battle?

1. I am very sorry. The Madcat is the often used code designation of the Clan Timber Wolf heavy OmniMech.

2. Smurfy is obsolete and no longer maintained.

Try this online 'Mechlab to design your 'Mechs before you spend $, Posted Image or Posted Image.
MechDB 2.0

3. The screen capture was taken directly from the MechWarrior Online game client.

22.5 is the correct payload value...for a stock TBR-S with its five fixed jump jets.

All other Timber Wolves get 27.5 tons nominal payload, often 28 tons if the pilot trims off a half-ton of armor from less-shot locations like the legs or noodle.

Some players run asymmetrical loadouts and sometimes strip some armor from the "shield" arm too.

Except for Dire Whales which I find squishy, I find that assault-class mechs that have a max speed of 48.6km/h are usually pretty durable so they can take a few hits before bringing all their weaponry to bear. If you are left behind and get focused, well, no mech stands up very well to that.

As others have posted earlier, there are plenty of assault-class mechs that have decent speed and firepower.
