The problems of soup Q go well beyond simply allowing groups into solo play. Everyone complains about the "99%ers", but by definition there can only be 1% of those players around, so your odds of meeting them regularly aren't exactly high. My issues with QP is as follows:

1) Matchmaker doesn't even try. If everyone's favorite Italian and his friends show up in a game, they end on my team more often than not. I also get Magic Pain Glove and a few other familiar names, while the opposing team gets no one(no one I recognize at least). Whelp, that match isn't going to be very engaging. I can essentially go AFK and come back to a victory screen. Why can't matchmaker at least make an attempt to spread the higher win rate players around?

2) Repeat matches. Your odds of running into the 99%ers aren't high to begin with, but after you see them once, suddenly it's virtually a guarantee you will not only see them in your next 2-3 matches, but the placement of them relative to you in the teams won't ever change. Lose to the comp premade once? Now enjoy losing to them 3 more times in a row! So matchmaker has now given me three or four completely unengaging, and likely frustrating, games in a row with the exact same teams as I as had the previous few games. What is the purpose of that? It can't even be bothered to remix the teams. Nope, same teams, same players, same outcome.

3) As much as everyone complains about comp premades, the "casuals" can be just as frustrating, because they have no desire to improve or change their own game play regardless of how terrible it is. Nascar in this game is 90% player habit, people who refuse to try to play any other way. Drop, turn right, start left handed circle, die, queue, repeat. There's no thought put into it. No attempt at even being spontaneous. It doesn't even matter how bad the end result is or how often it repeats itself, and it doesn't have to be nascar. Drop, do stupid things, die, repeat. There are some people there's just no saving, and again, if you see them on your team once, your odds of seeing them on your team for the next 2-3 matches in a row is pretty high. That makes for a very elongated un-fun experience.

The problems of QP extend far beyond "zomg tryhard comp players". Most people like to win, what's baffling to me is how most people won't make changes to their own game play to promote winning. Instead they expect someone else to do it for them, or get mad at the other team making changes in their own favor to promote their own winning.

This is pretty much the entire issue in a well-encapsulated nutshell.

I'm sorry... But as a 100% solo player, I cannot get behind separating solo and group play.

As a solo player I rely upon groups to provide communication, organization and game-play that is not one-dimensional or purely self-serving.

On occasion where I get a drop with no groups (few and far between)... I know I HAVE to turn right and keep up with the blob if I want to have a chance to survive.

IMHO, if you are a solo player and you hate groups, "you're doing it wrong". tm

It's funny watching the people who drop in groups defending group queuing while not realizing it's detrimental to the game, fairness, balance, and player count. Racing to your own destruction ^__^

Incidentally: thank goodness so many 99%ers stream. Watch Twitch, wait to see when they hit a lobby, bam! Desync'ed. ...Until you run into the next bunch.
