I'm setting up a new computer, all new hardware. Moving from HDDs to SSDs. Do I need to transfer a save file or just reinstall the the game and log in and all my mechs,MCs, credits will transfer?
Or do I need to copy over a save file?
If I need to transfer over a save file, where is the current save file location?

Are you using Steam for MWO, or standalone installation of MWO?
The file locations are different, depending on which... please advise, thanks!

All your stuff is saved server side, there is a file you can copy over from your old computer for your keybinds and such though. Standalone location would be C:\users\(your PC name)\Saved Games\Mechwarrior online

I go through Steam, but I log in through the MWO launcher.

OK, I also have Steam:
username = Your computer User code
If you consider to reinstall your Steam/MWO installation:
Find your custom settings here; you can copy the *entire* folder to your new computer and all your settings would be there:
C:\Users\username\Saved Games\MechWarrior Online\profiles
http://mwomercs.com/...age__p__6376317
ActionMaps.xml ==> holds your custom keybinds
Weapongroups.xml ==> holds your weapon group bindings
Attributes.xml ==> holds your game settings
- - - - - - - - - -
You can also copy the *entire* folder to your new computer and all your settings would be there.
In \logs you can also find useful information in case you're experiencing game crashing issues.
The folder also holds your saved mech layout and skill tree builds, in the [MechLoadouts] and [MechSkillTrees] folders respectively.
A fellow player (Horseman) also suggested your custom replaced thumbnails graphics, if you set the file to Read Only so that the client can't overwrite it again.
C:\Users\username\Saved Games\MechWarrior Online\UI\MechIcons
Optional: Just browse around to find interesting stuff, like your custom mech thumbnails!
You can replace the thumbnails with custom graphics too; just set the thumbnail file to Read_Only so that the MWO client can't overwrite it.
