So it seems people have taken a look at the roadmap and judged too quickly which caused Matt to have some comments.

"Just a few notes,

Mechs - We will be delivering more mechs/variants than are on the road map. However, I don't have exact delivery dates as of now. so they are not on the road map. The road map will be updated when I have delivery dates. Mark N and others are very busy and we want to continue to deliver mechs that you guys enjoy! (We also want to make sure the Annual Rewards Program returns to its former glory)

Maps - We are committing to delivering 4 "New" QP maps this year. the first one coming next month. We will be talking with Francois about which map will be next in our next Dev log. We will also be addressing issues with other maps in between the new maps. It's worth saying Mark N also help Francois with Maps!

Gameplay - We are continuing to work with the Cauldron on quirks and weapon tuning and more! Indy has been doing a great job getting those changes in! Please forgive the lack of Cauldron updates mentioned on the Road Map. We have no intention of stopping that I just don't have details on what is next.

Game Features - This is where the Flex team comes in. We have a few designs that we have been working on with the cauldron while going back and forth with engineers at Piranha Games. I haven't put any of that work on the road map as of yet and I won't until I can confirm I have the right design, with the right resources, for the right amount of time to get the job done. Most work requires multiple engineers of different specialties, UI, Back end, Gameplay, Networking ETC. Once I have the pieces in place we will let you know what it is we are working on.

Events and Sales - As you know I have been doing events and sales for a while now. This year won't be any different!
I only listed the "traditional" stuff here but there will be more events more free mechs!

For those of you who were upset, we posted the frenzy Sale before the roadmap the reason is we had the sale ready and waiting and we had been waiting for the road map to go up before the sale. however, since the sale had already started in a few areas we chose to post it first.

Anyways I want to say understand if you are not thrilled with the road map as it currently looks. Last year's roadmap certainly looked better to start. This year we are trying to MAKE SURE we can deliver what we commit to. Last year we over-committed and underdelivered, This year I would rather under-commit and over-deliver.

Maybe that is an overcorrection but I can tell you this if it shows up on the road map it's going in the flipping game."

So clearly their intent is to add things as they can be sure of the delivery date. We're all aware of the issues with overpromising and underdelivering so as Matt said, if it goes on the roadmap, it will make it into the game.

Also, if you look carefully you will find the Easter egg. Check out the preview image that's hidden below the link to the roadmap. Looks like the Crusader is confirmed.

This year we are trying to MAKE SURE we can deliver what we commit to.
the Team trying her best , other side without Ressources the Team can not fullfill Wonders with less Manpower and specialists.

If EG 7 says they are trying or willing to provide a flex team then that is a guarantee that they will actually give these people up, we all know how utopian some deadlines are and how patching and fixing continues long after titles are released , so that there will probably never be additional people available for MWO.
Unfortunately, despite all efforts, the mWO team has no influence and no great freedom of decision on the tactical and strategic decisions outside of their small sphere of influence

And like I replied to Matt to his comment... why not write that stuff to opening post?

Why not write that we also are planning to do these things but do not have timetable for them yet instead of just posting "empty" roadmap.

Someone was told not to oversell it, so they didn't and caused outrage. I agree with the decision not to over-promise, but they should have pushed to be allowed to allude to more content like they did in the revision.

Of course, forums are all about rash reactions. Rash reactions make topics and get readership, while silently nodding gets overlooked. Posted Image

People literally missed a new chassis and misread what was actually being said to assume nothing was going to happen. As evidenced by Matt's quote, they clearly meant they have stuff but they're not able to pin an exact delivery date.

The assumption there would be no new content was rash. You simply misread what they wrote.

They did though. They said specifically that they have things in the works but the roadmap will need to be flexible since they can't guerentee when they'll have the Flex team.

Yeah but that was super vague, after all he could tell us way more specific stuff just few hours later...

edit: I don't personally at least need any specific dates or months or even quarter when some stuff is coming if they are not sure about it, just simply say "we are working on stuff xxxxx and we are trying to get it ready this year most likely.

I agree it'd be better to have listed things they were working on and not hidden the Crusader so well while explaining there can't be a definitive dates for things.

it seemed bad at first, but that's just everyone's emotional reactions. reason takes a hold eventually, at least for some fraction of the forumites. i mean there are four map conversions and what seems to be a teaser for the crusader on there. id have loved for pgi to commit to four maps a year almost every other year of development.

id like a commitment to 4 mechs a year, and perhaps some new tech to go with it. but thats just wishful thinking.

The only mention of Faction Play is the assets that will be harvested from it.

1. The official title should be changed to:

"Too many rash reactions to the 2022 Roadmap. Let's talk about how to nerf them." Posted Image

2. But seriously, Matt had just further fleshed out the MWO 2022 Roadmap, and with further assurances that they are working in good faith, and perhaps have cool surprise(s) in store for us!

That's good enough for me personally. Posted Image

The "rash reaction" is mainly seeing that no additional resources have been promised to MWO this year--which means every year afterwards. It's great that they have a map designer and artist and I have no doubt they are doing the best they can with the resources they have, but there is no dedicated engineer, or UXP designer, or any of those other talents that are needed for more extensive changes like skill tree, rescale, and other things tentatively planned last year. One thing Matt and Daeron talked about last year was making improvements to the store, but it looks like there's no resources for that either. I understand what is meant by "flex team" and "if they have time." It means they're liable to be yanked away without completing a project even if they get assigned to do some MWO work at all. This shows that there is very little investment into MWO. The emptiness of the original roadmap didn't bother me so much as the wording around the explanation of the flex team and knowing the Core Team is only the few people working on MWO today. I also do not consider mech variants and sales and events as "new content" though they absolutely should do them. Even Matt and Daeron are not dedicated resources to MWO. No fault of their own, and honestly, I'm not pinning the blame on Russ or PGI as a company. I think they're doing what they have to to continue existing as a company and this is simply the reality of the situation. It's unfortunate.

MWO is old and hasn't had new content development for years. There's no rash reaction, check out steam charts, barely any dip that could be attributed more to world events than the roadmap. Enjoy it while it lasts or until you get bored with the same fishbowls.
