A thought for future reference, when I played on BattleTech on AOL one of the options was only allowing a single class to battle. I don't know how the specifics would work with MWO but I remember that the lights only matches were especially intense with a field full of lights running around. Just a thought.

Keep in mind I only dropped solo this weekend.
Pros:
1. Players overall became more cautious, teams tended to stick together more.
2. Your personal skill can make a bigger impact on match outcomes
Cons:
1. Matches tend to end very quickly, occasionally before some players have engaged an enemy.
2. Lower rewards. More difficult to accumulate match score, xp, and more importantly, C-bills.
3. Having a disconnect or afk on your team was a much harder event to overcome. Two? pfft
Neutral Observations:
1. Fewer light mechs. I believe assaults were the flavor people chose to counter short matches
2. Queue times did not improve by any noticable amount
3. LRMs were less useful without as many targets for the opposing team and conversely...
4. ECM became more important
5. Ballistic weapons became better as you needed less ammo to make it to the end of a match
6. Eliminating all enemy mechs became an easier plan than actually trying for a technical victory
Overall it was a nice change of pace, but I'm quite glad it was only for a weekend. I would much rather play 16 v 16 drops or even larger.

Con: Being short one or two people due to connecting issues in a Match made a huge difference!
No, I personally did not like 8v8. Then again, there are things that PGI did that I don't like but I have no choice to accept it: doing away with "Scouting", doing away with "VIP Escort" missions, doing away with "IS vs Clan" Faction Play, doing away with Quick Play Groups larger than four.
Most important change that I don't like that PGI made is that the Leader of a Unit is no longer able to set their Unit to be a loyalist to a specific House or Clan. You basically took away the main identity of a Unit and made them all a bunch of random Mercenaries. I didn't see anything positive out of that, it was made to fix the problem created by doing away with "IS vs Clan" Faction Play.
If there was one thing I would fix if I were PGI, and it shouldn't be difficult as you already have the programming for it, is bring back the Leader of a Unit being able to set their Unit to be a loyalist to a specific House or Clan. No more allowing members of a unit to be whatever they want.
Thank you for listening,

Actually it's because it was asinine, and most active FP players were dropping their tags just to play the other side and fill matches. The other issue is certain loyalist units, some of which will ONLY play siege defense, were stacking one side of the Q so hard no one could play.
You can still play Clan vs IS, so not sure what that complaint is about.
Escort was a terrible mode. If you want you can play it in Private Lobbies still.

I look forward to playing some 12v12 today, but MWO being able to switch up for a brief weekend\event at 8v8 is nice. Great work on allowing some variation. I'd love one day to have 24v24 event once a year, and several 8v8 events through the year. But hope 12v12 gets to stay the default.
I still prefer the mix of game play I get with 12v12. 8v8 just feels like deathball or die.
At this point I very much doubt we'll get a player pop again to do more than 12v12 and I would understand if the data supports queues being more reasonable with 8v8.
Here's hoping one day MWO2 gets made before MWO gets turned off. But from what I've learned of the costs involved in game dev the last few years I'm just happy we've had what we had so far and wouldn't be surprised if we didn't get any more for another long drought. Thanks for all the Mech on Mech action. Still wishing for a bright future but hanging in here stomping about while I can.
Peace, love and MECH empathy

Games are way faster and favours builds that focus high DPS and take no interest in survivability or sustainability.
Why bring extra ammo with 4 fewer enemies on the field? Take an extra gun instead!
Its pretty fun and I'm not totally opposed but I'm afraid that making the games smaller or adding another quick play que will simply divide players.
Also playing any type of support mech is pretty much pointless given that there is no skirmish phase, or any type of protracted shootout.
Not for me, hell I'm still holding out for 16v16.
The new maps are excellent keep them coming!

I would say $%^@ this game I'm not spending another dime and stomp my feet like all the pepega armchair developers here. However, I'm addicted and can't quit.

Overall, I think its a good change, perhaps, MWO team should try 10v10 and make 2 clan stars vs 2 clan stars. It might turn out to be the best middleground.
Other observations:
- It rewards good play and good builds more.
- Less specialisation and more "looking out for yourself" builds ironically lead to better team plays as teammates are more aware they are important and cannot afford to insist on their niche and throw the game.
- Faster game search times and loading into games is better for playerbase.
- More opportunities for flanking and actually reward some teams that play to their strengths and objectives of the game mode over every game being skirmish.
- I see lrm builds running some general weapons now in order to not be totally useless outside of lurming.
- Can give heavier penalties and clean up the playerbase of afkers or disconnects that ruin the game experience.

So I am crying now. I missed this blessed event of 8 vs 8 :'(((
Why, why why... I was waiting YEARS for this comeback. And I missed it.
You have no idea how terrible now I feel.
Please, PGI guys, don't screw this and give this option back again, please. Even as an alternative choice of QP match game mode. Please. I beg You.

All I saw was "Chaaaaaaaaarge!" and 0 tactics involved in the whole situation. Oh, and assaults everywhere. Surviving for longer than 30 seconds on anything medium or light was out of the question.
Also finding the enemy on larger maps was ugh. 5-7 minutes before first contact? Easy. Not to mention the dreaded disconnected assault situation, the only on in our team against 6 in the opposite one. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
So after a several chaotic messy fights where I couldn't see ****, I decided that this weekend will be better spend elsewhere.
P.S. iI you need sone event ideas, how about 8v8 match on a shrunk version of Solaris City? And players are assigned a random variant of Urbie with preset weaponry for it. I would love to see that mess unfold.
