Sorry you feel that way but this game started 8v8 and they can keep it that way

Though back then in the primary queue, 4-man and under had been restricted to 1 mech/weight class, not with tonnage allowances. And the teams were matched up equally with matching weight classes. I was not against the original merge, only the route PGI took to get there.

I've quite enjoyed the 8v8. Feels fresh. Tonnage disparity has been pretty bad in some matches (I had 1 where our team had 5 lights and 3 mediums) but this really only underlines that lights and mediums need buffing still. Ideally 8 lights should be able to win against 8 assaults, if they were equally skilled.

I hate 8v8. If you play an Assault Mech, 2/3 of the game is playing Mech Walking Online, especially on the big maps, then the battle is over super fast . If you are using Light Gauss forget it, the cooldown is so long and the games go so fast its not worth it.

Now most of the game is walking there. Loose a team mate fast, whelp there goes the game. The snowball effect is even faster. Games end too quick.

Too much walking vs actually shooting something. I really don't feel like playing Mech Walknig Online, much prefer Mech Warrior Online.... I hate it.

These 8vs8 games are so much closer than 12/12s, 80% of the games are at least 8-4 or closer. There’s way more benefits too, but that’s one of them.

+1 to the liking 8s. While there's still work to be done if the game were to permanently shift to 8v8 (bring back classic maps please?) overall it has shown that 12v12 has stagnated pretty badly. In 8s teammates are more valuable, hitscan sniping is less effective and LRMs even get a bit of a chance, not to mention the obvious and immediate benefits of faster matches and better matchmaking.

By comparison, rotation is heavy in 12v12 and half the team seems to get sacked before the match really kicks off, which I'm sure is pretty frustrating for those new Green C players who are trying to get into the game.

I don't think groups need to be removed - perhaps tonnage limits could be messed with though.

Overall, a good tweak and I encourage PGI to investigate this more to see what else can be done. Good work, guys!

Just because someone is pointing out, many times with evidence, that it looks like some people are abusing group tonnage and teaming in the current queue doesn't mean they are acting like victims. One could say that you and a number of others are acting like victims whenever someone points that out. "That has not been my experience" seems to be a fine argument for a handful of people on one side of the argument, but video evidence showing two 99 percentiles running 200 tons and cleaning up a match is dismissed.

No, im not acting like a victim, because when I lose, its my fault, not someone else's. This is something the anti-group conspiracy theorists fail to understand.

I'd also like to ask how you can make an assessment? Just checked the leaderboards and you don't have 10 games this season. Also, Jarl's has you retired since November 2021. Now, before you reply about me not playing this trial, maybe you should see the back on forth I had with Daeron on the Announcement thread. Also note that I said I would play the next test.

I play when I want. I played last weekend. This point is irrelevant.

Here is what I see. Player numbers were down almost 10K from the May '21 high according to Jarl's. What staff is left taking care of MWO saw that and are trying to find ways to bolster player numbers. They came up with an idea that is not a permanent change to the way you want to play the game. It is only for events, and I'm sure they will also allow plenty of time to play for event rewards in 12v12 queues. They may decide to make tonnage/group size changes to help balance, which would only be for the event queue. Not permanent.

I also see that the leaderboard was at 13316 players at the start of this test. It now is at 14600. A gain of 1284 players. Steam numbers also look to be better that the two weekends prior. Definitely higher than the five days prior. So, not the game killing change a number of vocal people are trying to make it out to be (with anecdotal statements BTW).

I think you should be thankful that they are trying to do something to get disgruntled players back. Because...I hate to tell you...the status quo of keeping things the way they have been for the last 9 month 'ain't working.'

This is correct, and a very reasonable thing to say. I've made it no secret that I disagree with your thoughts on groups, strongly, but, that doesn't mean I disagree on everything.

To be fair, you kinda knew what you were signing up for when you hopped into that slow moving Assault class Mech. I've been getting into firefights a lot more quickly I find.

I've been enjoying the 8v8 setup, though that could be that I am new to the game and only had a couple of weeks of 12v12 before the event kicked in. But I've been finding the combat kicks up pretty quick and been enjoying it a lot.

Yeah, I haven't had much trouble reaching the fight as an assault either really. I did in 12v12 sometimes because of the sheer number of snipers sometimes, but that's kind of dying down in this 8v8 meta. There are some maps where it is really annoying still, like Hibernal Rift.

I will have mixed feeling about returning to 12v12. On the one hand, I can go back to playing more "funsie"/specialist builds without being a total drag on the team when they don't work out. On the other, I will likely go back to spending a large period of time in cover during the "potato phase".

I do kind of hope they keep the 8v8 mode, but it needs some work still with a few things.

I am loving 8v8, I primarily pilot lights and fast mechs and almost always in a group of 2-3, although i havent done a group larger than 2 for 8v8. But it is a blast, we have range to maneuver, freedom to pick our fights. Scout, assess, Engage, disengage, reassess and win. Although I did have a 30% loss rate, it was only over 6-8 matches, so not the best sample size. All in all 8v8 was an amazing breath of fresh air, no traffic jams and tactical maneuvering andd coordination played a much better role.
