Anyone been having trouble with this lately? Ever since Friday I have had at least 6 crashes when it was loading maps. My latest crash was on the Mining Collective. I am now being penalized because of it. I can't even get back into the game as it crashes when it loads the map. I get an error: CryEngine Error - A file appears to be corrupted. Please run the MWO Repair Tool to fix the issue. If issues persist, please contact Support services.
I try and run the repair tool (after hunting for it) and get the error: Could not determine target from command line. Closing...

Anyone else with similar problems?

I used to have those kinds of issues. Are you running in Full screen or Full Screen Windowed mode? Switching to Full screen Windowed sometimes fixes the issue.

Could try a video driver update or roll back as well. Running in Administrator mode?

Steel Claws - I have not changed anything since I started playing 6 months ago. This is the first time it is happening. I play in full screen mode. I will try changing it to windowed.

It has now happened again on the River City map in Skirmish mode. I had played 2 matches before it with no problems, once in Tourmaline and the other in Solaris City. I am now at a 10 minute time out for not playing the map. These are unfair penalties for something that is not my fault.

I have noticed this problem is happening every 3 games. Hope this patch helps things.

Have you tried running the repair tool or verifiying file integrity? If the problem persists you may need to reinstall, also do you have active scanning with your anti-virus? Make sure your anti-virus isn't scanning programs/applications that are currently in use.

That sounds like a pathing issue between where the files are stored at and where the repair tool thinks they are stored at. I'm relatively new to the world of IT, so am kinda at a loss on what to do. I've seen some gurus on this board before and I hope one of them chimes in on a way to help.

I'd make a backup copy of your settings/preferences (I believe all that is stored in your user.cfg file), uninstall, then reinstall (then bring back your old user.cfg file). It may sound like the equivalent to a "nuclear option", but if it takes you three hours to find a problem that takes 5 minutes to fix than you are still out 3 hours and 5 minutes.

At any rate, doing a fresh install will help to rule out a lot of possibilities should problems persist.

I got some help through the ticket system. They told me to do some stuff with the DNS settings.
Excerpt from the email I received:

Try to determine if any Firewall or Anti-Virus software might be preventing a stable connection:
- Temporarily disable your Windows Firewall or any 3rd-party firewall software and attempt a connection
- Temporarily disable your anti-virus software and attempt a connection
- If you are able to establish a connection after disabling any of the above software, you will need to add a profile or filter for MWO in that software to allow a stable connection to go through

Try to determine if your router or modem setup might be contributing to the issue:
- If you are connecting to your modem or router through Wi-Fi, please attempt a direct connection with an Ethernet cable and see if the issue persists
- Try forwarding the following ports in your router and see if the issue persists:
TCP 45461
TCP 45464

Release and Renew your IP and flush your DNS:
1. In the Windows Start menu type "Command Prompt", right-click the top result and choose Run as Administrator
2. In the command prompt window, type:
3. ipconfig /release and hit Enter.
4. ipconfig /renew and hit Enter.
5. ipconfig /flushdns and hit Enter.
6. netsh winsock reset and hit Enter

Change your DNS settings:
Using the information provided either by OpenDNS (http://208.69.38.205/) or Google (https://developers.g...-dns/docs/using) please apply either of these DNS settings to your system.
Using either of those custom DNS providers is generally preferred over the standard DNS servers your ISP might currently use.

After I did the ipconfig changes, I couldn't load a map at all. I then wen on to do the DNS settings and used OpenDNS. So far it seems to have worked. I have played multiple matches without a crash. If things crash again, I will post again. Otherwise I think it worked.

Thanks for the suggestions and helpful advice. GM Zen, thank you for all your help! I hope this info can help any others that have had/currently have the same problems.

Ok, Played a few matches today with no problems.... until now. Had just finished a match, scores were shown, hit exit match, the Mech screen was loading back up when the game crashed.

At least I got to play the match. Was a good one too!

The game is still crashing when loading the Drop Preparation screen. I've done everything in the email sent to me by GM Zen and it's STILL crashing!

For clarification, your original post said you were getting Cryengine errors, yes? And are those error still generating? Please take a screenshot if you could before hitting okay. The information provided by helpdesk more for routing/connectivity issues.
  • If receiving an actual windows/game error, then this is would not necessarily be a connectivity issue. I was going to suggest trying a VPN, which could potentially allow your connection to the servers to bypass any problematic router systems (all of those hops) before I reread your original post.
  • Most likely system instability or component issues
    • So issues.. Is it an actual problem with files? Or is the issue related to their stored location on the harddrive? Or when files have been loaded and are read from System Memory, or GPU memory?
Start with dxdiag file, also notate if setup with any overclocking and if so , which components, any new/replaced components, etc. Is the game being ran from the Standalone client or via Steam? The Repair Tool is accessible from the main Launch screen, where the patching is done via the Standalone. If running via Steam, then you would need to run the Verify Integrity of Game Files within Steam.

If running via Steam, you may wish to download, install and run the Standalone as a test, since it would be a fresh install (settings are saved in Saved games folder)

You might ask the mods to move this thread to Workarounds subfolder too. Less likely to get buried too.

Tarl
The exact Cryengine error is: CryEngine Error - A file appears to be corrupted. Please run the MWO Repair Tool to fix the issue. If issues persist, please contact Support services.

I ran the Repair tool and got this error: Could not determine target from command line. Closing...

I run the standalone. I prefer to do as much as possible without Steam inserting its nose into it.

I do not overclock anything.

*EDIT*
I ran the Repair tool from the Launcher. It found no mismatched files. Hopefully clearing out the shaders and textures it did, will help.

Now I have exactly the same issue, loading screen crash "CryEngine Error - A file appears to be corrupted" and then when I try to reconnect it repeats, but If I try to play another game it is ok.... happened several times in about 5 - 7 games over and over, one time I finally reconnected and won LOL

I never crashed before but started to crash once in a blue moon. Crashed on mining after shooting a M laser on the ground at the start of the match, 2nd time was on Tourmaline in a middle of a fight, and a 3rd time somewhere else.

I noticed a lot of ppl disconnect start/mid matches a lot of the time since last time I played. Does seem like a log of ppl are having issues.

if its not on use full window. sometimes updates overwrite the full window setting. i know at least twice that happened to me. and when in doubt, flush the shader cache.

Two crashes (not just disconnects) in the past 2 days. Lots of games between crashes, maybe 15 plus, but before that, can't even remember when I last crashed. Several months ago, at least.

The most annoying bit is that they happened right about the start of a brawl.
