So I played MWO for a while back around 2017-2018 for a couple months and quit because I sucked and found the game really confusing. Plus Incursion and Escort were really crappy modes to play a lot of when you first start this game. Anyways after some time on trial mechs I bought my first mech, a RVN-3L, with C-Bills without ever changed it from stock before quitting the game. I dunno why that was the mech I bought in the first place. Probably because it was cheap and I didn't know any better?

Came back about a month ago. Lots change, things are easier to understand for me now. Played a while with Baradul's RVN-3L "Laser Bird" build from his 2018 YouTube video. It was ok but didn't really suit me. Ended up playing around last week and found a build that suits me really well and seems to always draw comments and raised eyebrows from my teammates when they notice it. Never anything bad as I tend to pull my weight. I'm still a tier 5 pilot doing Quick Play so this build may only work in there and not higher tiers.

3x Light PPC, 2x Rocket Launcher 15, ECM and XL280 Engine.

So far I'm running a poorly cannibalized version of the skill tree from baradul's "Laser bird".

Weapon groups are 1 All PPC, 2 chain PPC, and 4 All RL15.

Any comments suggestions on what to change up? I've thought about dropping the RL15's for either a SRM2 and a ton of ammo or swapping out for a light engine and moving a little slower. I don't find heat to be an issue most of the time as I don't often need to keep firing the PPC's without a pause.

Personally I almost never use RLs.

As for Light Engine, they are more durable, yes. However, light 'Mechs are usually so fragile that even if you survive the side torso loss thanks LFE, you will probably die soon anyway. This is the reason why light 'Mechs usually use XL engines.

I only picked them up because I had tonnage to spare and didn't know what to do with it. RL15's were cheap and filled it up perfectly. Even as an One-Time-Use weapon they are great in the right circumstances. I can ruin someone's day if I catch them unaware. I can either kill 'em outright or make them have to remove themselves from the front light for a bit. 3xLPPC, slight pause, 2x RL15, slight pause, and 3xLPPC from behind says "good night to you good sir!" if timed right. I ran with one guy for a bit ( just happened the the QP queue kept putting us together on the same team). Our mechs' worked well together. He'd call out a target for a soft or hard open. Hard just meant I used my RL. I'd get their core open from the back and draw attention before dipping out. he' jump in and unload on their back pulling their attention on him again and I'd pop back out and rain LPPC fire upon our target. Wish I knew, at that time, that you could click players at the post match screen for a menu to friend request/report/whatever. My ECM provided enough cover to keep us off the radar and safe from LRMs.

Yeah that's why I took the XL engine but if I could find a way to squeeze in a light engine and survive for even one more shot without significant slow down then I'd at least try it. Naturally my build isn't actually new. lol. Found MechSpecs and my self-discovered 3xLPPC build is on there. I didn't think the RVN-3L could get stealth armor...If it still can I'm totally dropping the RL15's to pick up a XL295 engine and stealth armor.

The good thing is that PGI removed the Light PPC minimum range some time ago.

Or you could try missiles, since this Raven has got missile cooldown/velocity/range quirks.

So what about using MRM-30 with 2-3 tons of ammo? You could strip armor from arms to find some tonnage. Just joking.

The number of MWO players is not especially high, so you can expect to see him again sooner or later.

Checking his forum account could be good idea too.

The destruction of a side torso will result in heat spike and that could result - in some situations - in temporary shutdown of your 'Mech.

Stealth armor has one significant disadvantage: The heat dissipation can be a problem.

Drop the rocket launchers and add heatsinks and bam this little birdy can pew.

Great high mounts for ridge poking or right side poking.

Plus 400m seismic is just so ***** useful. Not to mention +50% cap speed and +10% ecm effectiveness along with +200 sensor range. The lack of offensive quirks doesn't slow it down a bit and all that intel gathering goodness makes for an excellent flanker and skirmisher. I think I'm actually liking this a bit more than the lppc spider and thats saying something.
