This happened a few days ago in quickplay. I had been out of tier 5 about a day. What happened to all the matchmaker protections and queues built in to keep top competitive unit groups away from potentially-average players? I do remember that there is an adjustment for every tier promotion as the competition is better. But I was afraid the whole match that any second a top player from the other side was going to one-shot me.
Let me be clear that the four players were on my team, they were nice, and did a great job. We won and I did about average for me. This is not about them or anything they did. But I think they should build back a little of that protection for the same reason the major leagues and high school teams don't compete.

Most NS haven't played this game in several years...so chances are they're also Tier 4/5

All players have the same weapons as you, you should know you won't be one shot unless you just stand in one spot and ignore everything and you are not going to get head shot unless you are powered down or the other person gets very lucky.
Consistent players abilities and team play will be better is what you will encounter.
Match maker will go up and down 1 tier so you won't likely see anyone in tier 2 but still match with new players in tier 5. In theory it could go bonkers but that is very unlikely.
Tier 3 is a good place.

You can be one-shotted in the head or back or in the torso in light mechs or perhaps mediums? If not one-shotted, then two-shotted in a few seconds in any mech. Alphas can be 60-70? Matchmaker can go up or down two tiers. Tier 5 can be paired with Tier 3. I don't recall if the valves will open all the way to disregard tier altogether at some point or not. When matching teams, the average tier of the team is used. You can definitely have a tier 1 player against a tier 5, but it's hard to know this because even a good player can play a match poorly or a bad player can play a match well.

We didn't even play 5 games and there is a post?
Shocked anyone remembers units from 2012.
