Ok, so does anyone else think Tourmaline is actually BETTER without it's assets?

THAT is the kind of map we need more of.. not e-sport arenas like the maps we've been getting lately..

Just rolling hills, craters, SHALLOW canyons and foliage..

Please, PGI, make maps like that!

And please consider keeping an asset-free version of tourmaline in-game?

Same. As long as vitric wasn't in the same vote tourmaline got most of the votes and people were loving it. Being able to go anywhere you want with no invisible walls or huge terrain made it almost like an infantry type map. Snipers would cover the advanace of the brawlers as they made their way from hill to hill so that they could get in range. All it needs is a bit of central hill that is still all open to walk over to block the map edge snipers and to add in some minor assets to provide basic cover like wrecked mechs around the ridges and open areas and some large blasted rocks and boulders strewn around for lrm cover. But keep the general openness. Lrm were not an issue because with the new skill tree everyone is grabbing 100% radar dep by default. The few times I was running an lrm build on it I only was able to use them once the main groups met and there was brawling and constant locks. Plus uav are pretty easy to shoot down so those don't help much either.

I wouldn't say it's better exactly but if you did something similar to this with more hard cover it'd rock

These kids don't want cover, they wanna lurm.
I've played the map twice, thankfully in a bracket where everyone already knew lurms are bad and didn't bring them..
But it didn't stop the matches from turning to a blob v blob rotato factory.

What map does stop it from happening in quick play though? Posted Image

Francois has done a really good job with the maps.

But no, seeing all your enemies immediately from the drop, and rotating around rolling hills until one blob wins does not make for more dynamic or strategic play.

I know MW4 had engine limitations as to why visual range was limited and you couldn't see across maps, but man do I miss it for maps like these.

That doesn't prove that:
1. The majority of people voted for it.
Or
2. That people love it because,
A. They could be completely unaware.
B. They could have heard about it, and want to see it themselves.

The only benefit is all the invisible walls are gone. The geometry was okay, but the random spots with invisible cover were a bit annoying.

Happy to have the geometry back, but maybe they could tidy up some of the clipping in the process.

different, yes. better, maybe.

i think what people are liking is the novelty, not so much that the map has improved. ive always considered tourmaline one of the better playing maps in the game as there are a lot of different ways it plays out. the additional asset geometry was always full of bad hitboxes, and there are a few happy to see that go as well.

what it does show is that terrain-only maps can work out pretty well and doesn't need to be full of assets to be viable. you are going to have softer curves and no hard angles but there are a lot of environments that can work out without those, like sand dunes.

Not sure I would say it's better but I like it and hope to see both versions in rotation.

I was kind of starting to dig it, but now I have to hate it if it's ALRM approved.
