seems every time i log in to play the button is missing. and there have been no announcements or schedules posted, and no bugfix pass in the june patch. did we put this thing in the game to not use it?

They said Event Queue will be back…..Soon™

I was hoping that it would be more often. Sad to see it wasn’t. Most of my friends left because of the Skill Shubbery, which was finally fixed. But, like me, they have no desire to play in SoupQ. We might be looking at a little too little, a little to late.

And reply to the person quoting me….as I said…Soon™

I believe they are still working on fixing the matchmaker to be separate for Event Queue so it doesn't destroy the MM for QP when Event Queue is open.

Hello there, all three of you. Not to be a wise-[bleep] here, but it so happens that there has been an Official Posting regarding this matter. Please refer to...

"June 21st Patch Issues Tracking"

...which has an Italicized Note contained within at the top which you can use for refreshing your minds about the matter. Have a nice day, everyone! B)

so all the info is in buried posts. good to know.

pretty sure that note was added after i read the initial post.
still doesnt mention anything to do with specifics about the event queue, only that they had to postpone an event pending hotfix.

i concur with that assessment. I tend not to re-read announcements, and wouldn’t have said anything until after the hot fix. Next time I’m going to make sure to take screen shots, like I did for those who said I didn’t know what I was talking about with potential game changes. They asserted that there were no Cryengine programmers left to do the work. Less than a year later, Skill Shubbery fixed to what many were suggesting from the start, and Event Queue added. Which would require….hmmmmm.. Cryengine programming!

Hotfix announcement is up, and released. No mention of fixing matchmaker or Event Queue.

If you'd been paying attention you'd know the event Q is heavily based on Faction Play matchmaking, so much so that when it launched that you may have had to switch sides to play.

The current Faction Play matchmaker is, in part I suspect, based on the Solaris matchmaking system. The last "new" thing they did was Solaris.

Now here is the part that will will really blow your mind; none of those changes or systems have anything to do with cryengine. Those are all backend MWO specific things.

The most cryengine related thing they've done in the last like 5 years is change the font and break their own UI lol.

there is core engine programming, and there is game code. im pretty sure they can do the latter, but the former might be out of their pay grade. they might also not even have access to the complete source code for all components.

Both skill tree and event queue are just front end changes (for event queue with a match instance call with a different variable set). No need to go into the spaghetti code for that. That's literally just Flash development, which isn't exactly obscure.

the whole of gamedev isn't exactly a black art. the general rule of thumb is if they have done it before they can do it again. but all programmers are not equal. some are good at frontend code but dont have the maths background to implement state of the art renderer or physics code. programmers come in practically every paygrade from intern to 7+ figure salaries. pgi can probibly only afford the intern end of that spectrum.

there might be source they have full access to, but its way over the head of your best programmers. once all the hard problems are solved there is no point paying a high end coder anymore, and pgi's lead coder left a long time ago, and it can be very destructive to let your lower skilled programmers even try to touch it.

there are however proprietary 3rd party things which are just a code blob with an api. thats a dll and a header file. you could still disassemble it and do asm level development, but thats usually not allowed by the license agreement that usually comes with it. parts of the engine can fall into this category.

the good news is you can do a lot with what you have, its just a matter of allocating the people and the funds to a thing and hope it pays off in the long term. pgi has a history of its plans being bad and not paying off very well, but i think they are past that now.
