gg is just a simple politeness, it's like shaking hands after a football game, done in any sport.

GG to me personally seems a little sarcastic when you were stomped, I'll use above unless I felt it was a genuinely good game.
if it was a big stomp, I might well reply, sure, or just chuckle, because we all know it wasn't.
I've noticed a few using thanks for playing on the winning side, rather than use GG.

If it was one of those exceptional games, a big come back win or lose, I'm more likely to say Great Game. they seem so rare, in most platforms, I think it's worth expressing, even if your feeling a little fedup, over being on the losing side, it worth appauding the skill of the come back team.

Then there are the cave dwellers that say GG CLOSE or GG Ease..

So sad and insignificant, are these people, they have to use a computer game, to feel good, and rub others noses in the loss.
They damage the game, making it more likely that people might stop playing, than deal with these toxic [incert your own expletive]

Three choices, don't give them pleasure by replying.
Use the block feature.
Use the report feature.

Block becaause your ending the annoying back ground noise of an immature child, report, because at a time when population numbers are low, it's better to lose one idiot, than potionally more.

People like thise will eventually get warnings temp bans and perma bans if they don't learn, just due to disclosure laws, it's dangerous to report it openly.

I prefer to let the losing party be the first to say gg. Similar to how the loser in chess or mtg etc extends their hand as a way to concede the game, and gg is used in a similar manner in many games.

I don't think it's a big deal or anything, but it's just a little nicer and more classy for the winner to wait and respond if the loser ggs than to say it first.

I can't agree with the saying that gg is sportsmanship of manners.
My team lost to the enemy perfectly.
Inside the team, they are blaming each other.
Are there even trolls?
It's a messed up game by anyone.

The winner say gg. Really??
I think we should talk about GG when the game is like a game, rather than winning or losing.

In a stomp, saying "gg" to the losing team can feel like rubbing salt in the wound. I just accept it and move on because I think some players say "gg" if they personally had a good match not whether it was a close or challenging match to win. I typically only write "gg" myself if it was a fairly close match, or if not, I'll just put it in team chat, if I say anything at all.

otoh, and having played hockey (field- and indoors, not the icy kind) myself in my 'youth', you don't exactly say "good game" when you just trashed some poor souls with like 7:0
-the same is kinda true for an 12:0 in mwo.

yes, the 12kill team may intent to just be sportsman-like when uttering "gg",
on the 0-side it often is read as being sarcastic when somebody describes a slaughterfest as "good".

best to just avoid the whole mess.

Those who take insult when none is given are fools, those who take insult when it is given are twice the fool.

While a 12-0 stomp is not fun for either side, and I can get why people on the 0 side would be upset, "gg" is basically like saying, "Hello" or "How do you do?" to the random neighbour or stranger you pass by on a walk through your neighbourhood. It's not a serious inquiry to their wellbeing, but a general politeness.

Some may intend "GG" to be an insult, but I think most people are just using it as a politeness. If you want to think that everyone else out there is a jerk, that's on you.

I've taken to using o7 for end of match conversation, and 'good fight' or 'good run' if it was, indeed, a good fight.

that's how you see things, and I tend to, also.
others think different - that's the whole point of this thread from beginning.
for example, quite a few ppl don't have a background in sports, or organised (board)games etc and don't know the etiquette around those.

you don't have to agree with em, just don't look surprised when somebody 'misunderstands' your intention and gets salty.

OP's point of contention is dumb and this thread is a salt level 9 rage quit post.

If GGs offend you at all ever don't play online games, especially this one.

I assume its a generational thing. Any sport i have ever done, regardless of the score/outcome you said good game. You acknowledge the efforts of your opponent and humble yourself in the process.

“Thank you for the game, I enjoyed it. I hope you had fun, and better luck next time if you didn’t!”

Or “gg” for short.

Too many people are too damn sensitive.

Honestly, if somebody saying "gg" when it was a clear stomp (or God forbid "ggclose" as obvious sarcasm) affects your emotional state playing a game played mostly by adults where the outcome is, by all reasonable accounts, meaningless, then you should probably stay home and not interact with the world, because the real world out there is a very scary place by comparison.

I typically see GG from the winners when its a pure stomp. About the only time both sides drop it is when its a very close hard fought match.

Basically I can sum this entire thread up with this;

Every Game is a Good Game.

Line up, shake hands, then maybe (if you are lucky) mommy will buy you an ice cream cone on the way home.

I actually say ggwp in team chat when we win, or something like good try lads if we lose. The exception is stomps, then it's ggclose in all chat just to rub it in.

My point of view about "The GG" Posted Image
(I'm not saying this to anyone in particular or to OP, I'm just contributing to the debate.)

1.) There is no official rule what GG means, maybe the Wikipedia explanation... here -> https://en.wikipedia...o_game_terms#GG

2.) There is no netiquette rule bound to use of GG, it is used in different ways in different games...

3.) Even in today's world, not all the people are just toxic and sarcastic and want hurt and insult others all the time.. .there is a lot of good and nice people too

4.) Since you can interpret almost everything in the good and also in the bad way, it depends on your character, mood and personality - just don't assume that everyone is the bad person - even if you are bad/toxic/hateful/etc. person, not all other people are like you

5.) Most of the people don't care about you that much, to make it a point to insult you or to hurt you - even more so in this game

6.) As far as I know, this game is mostly played by older people, so it is not that toxic as other games which are full of young, mostly toxic players

7.) There is no time to waiting if and when someone will write something, since after the game, players start to disconnecting. So if you want to show that you enjoyed the game, or if you want to give a compliment to the enemy team, just do it...

I say GG almost every game, even when I get stomped - even when I not enjoyed the quick wipe of my team, I need to admit that enemy did a good work - so it is compliment to their game and tactic (or maybe just luck Posted Image )

And yes, I can even enjoy if my team gets stomped, it still might be a very good and thrilling game.

And I also sometimes use a "GG WP" in "All" chat too - if the enemy won, I am showint that I enjoyed the match and they were very good. If mine team won, I am giving compliment to my team by saying this. Not a toxic or sarcastic, just public compliment to my team. There is nothing wrong with publicly giving compliment to your own team, anywhere, if you do it on polite way, not the toxic/sarcastic/rude.

Take it or not, I am doing it that way, I am enjoying the game, I and like to thanks and compliment to enemy and also my team - in a good way always! Posted Image

(And btw, I returned back after 8 years, and yes, this game still have lot of wrongs things, but I am enjoying it a lot!)

It's not sensitive at all. The people taking it as an insult are the sensitive ones.
