PGI employed a 'Mech artist almost a year ago, when they were working on the expansion pack for MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries. But he has left since then.

No, PGI still lacks a Mech artist.

Well, it was remotely based on the Solaris 7 games from the BattleTech universe (with its various classes, etc).

Yes, some players expected the MWO Solaris 7 game mode to be like that. Unfortunately, PGI created something different.

Well, finally! The answer to my question has been answered! I came back to the game after a long hiatus and thought I was having a blonde moment. As a veteran founder I just came back to the game (had to bow out early in '16 due to work but I had supported Solaris 7 before its release). Anywho, I could not firgure out what I was missing in my attempts to find Solaris via the games menu - I should have checked the forums to start with! LOL

PGI removed Solaris 7 a year ago. They even kept the Solaris 7 logo, even though the game mode itself was gone. You can still see those Solaris 7 division signs in the Store.

For what it's worth, PGI is doing monthly events that bring back some of the Solaris gameplay but TBH the fact they dropped the Divisions and are going by class/techbase division means the matches tend to be dominated by 1-2 chassis. So much for all those who screamed "just matchmake by weight class, it will be fair!!!"
