Again: I have never once - not once - in the entire history of my playing this game seen someone choose to deliberately shut down to vent heat. Not since my recent return to the game, and not in the years I played it before then when I was higher tier and saw a wider swath of play. Not one single time, in every match I've observed, have I seen someone with their Override on decide "Okay, mission accomplished, time to preserve my 'Mech" and choose to manually shut down.

I do so semi regularly, I'm surprised you haven't seen this yourself. Sometimes it's advantageous too push DPS while in-cover by firing beyond the overheat level, even when I start with override on sometimes I will turn it off temporarily too force shutdown. If you're not taking damage and exposed safer and faster to overheat too "vent heat" and you can put out more damage that way then waiting for cooldown without damaging your own mech with override. So I don't know why you think it wouldn't be utilized? Unless I'm mistaken somehow with my strategy.

I'd rather have override on when I don't need it, than have it off when I do.
Always override, 100% of the time, there's never a good reason not to.

@ 1453 R,

Watch prolific YT streamers like Sean Lang, TTB or Brios and you'll see them use tactical shutdowns/cool shots above 100% heat all the time. They also explain what they are doing and why if you just listen.

Good hunting,

I'm gonna blaspheme and say that yeah, you should always override, but I also think that override is abused and should be made more punishing to use. It rewards high heat high alpha builds over low heat DPS mechs.

Like someone said, override is a skill that needs to be learnt. I always override because the worst thing in this game is you going 101% heat and shutting down in front of enemies. The point of override aint going berserk and dying of overheat trying to kill an enemy. The point is to decide where you shut down or avoiding shut down from minor overheats.

Though if you do face impossible to survive situation you should definitely go berserk and try to inflict as much as damage as possible. When you're about to die overheat damage doesn't matter.
