With so many maps that were once removed, don't you think that this "classic map" should really be a "Classic"?

Come on guys... bring it back...

I have got no problem with it.

PGI should keep both versions in rotation and let the players decide if the wish to play on the original Polar Highlands map or if they wish to use the reworked version. That's what the map voting system is for.

I am not opposed. Especially after the Terra Therma Classic disaster I really want more options to dilute François blunders.

I think that having more maps to choose from would give the players the opportunity to vote for something else than the usual Canyon Network, Solaris City or Tourmaline Desrt.

I'd also love to get the pre-François version of Caustic back. The map was absolutely beautiful before it got turned into a visual train wreck

You mean the second version of Caustic Valley? Larger than the original one, but having the dormant volcano in the centre of the map? Lots of nascaring.

Have they not put a procedural map generator into this game yet to end the terribad NASCAR and chokepoint gameplay?

It has been how many years since MW 5 was released?

Plenty of time to port such functionality to MWO.

They cant. Because the game engine MWO runs on is ancient and barely anyone knows how to work it anymore. And I dont think it would support procedural generation.

Main(the game's main server loop) loads a map file onto the server at each game session start.

Main could be edited to...

Launch map procedural generator -> generate map
Load generated map

A new program is simply appended into the main loop.

Not hard to do with competent developers.

Again, would the game engine allow it? And is there anyone left who can work the engine to implement it? You really overestimate both of these things.

I enjoy breaking their nads.

Sometimes I think of returning to MWO, but then I remember how awful NASCAR and chokepoints are.

It's not a matter of competent developers, it's having developers period.

The 10yo+ engine isn't the issue - there are plenty of people who know how to use it, in that regard it's actually a blessing.

The real issue is this game is being maintained and updated with a very small budget and staff of 3-4 people. On the last NGNG Dev interview video, they mentioned that Francois, the level designer who made these maps recently left PGI.

It's why the new maps are being added by remixing assets from Faction Play maps and old maps, instead of developing new content - there's no budget. This remains a small niche game with a small but committed fan base.

The new Terra Therma map might be the last new map for a while.

Depending on how long you have been away the meta has changed drastically. Yes there is still nascar and chokes but the amount of viable mechs has greatly increased and pretty much any playstyle is viable now. You can snipe or brawl or squirrel with ease. I'm having a blast on this account just tooling around in a fle-20 and playing the spoiler by backstabbing and drawing mechs away from the fights. With all the buffs to lights and their weapons systems you can easily find a mech and play style that is fun and rewarding that doesn't follow the nascar and can bypass the chokes.

I like the added map variety over the past year or so since I started playing. But since QP seems to have ended up as the de facto play style in MWO, why not put the Faction maps into QP? I've checked those other maps out a bit in testing grounds, and they seem like they'd be a nice change of pace.

You present a nuanced argument, so I shall counter with a similar rebuttal.

No. You will not have your LRM handheld map.

Lurms have been nerfed to heck and back though, given the state of ECM and Radar Deprivation.

The map needs to make a return because it is unique, and because a great many locations were used on this map in modes other than Domination. Variety is good.

Lockons should be more viable on other maps, they shouldn't have a single crutch map where they can do well.

With the current state of radar deprivation, things would be a bit different now on the classic map. Its easier to disappear when missiles are mid flight by backing over a ridge.
