Honestly, I'm really hoping they're working on MWO2. Single player and PVE (only) mechwarrior has never been my cup of tea, on the other hand, this game originally promised a much more robust "Massively Multi-player" aspect that it just never delivered. People wanted to be in a house or clan or mercenary company and have those choices actually make a difference, but all we got was weak-sauce random queues and disappointment.

As I understand it, there are technical reasons that many of the systems that were promised never really got implemented, or were implemented poorly. If that's the case, it makes sense that moving to MWO 2 could help solve many of the issues that this game has had. Battletech has a vast time-line with plenty of opportunites for expansion, but if the current programmers/developers are being prevented from giving a product that they're proud of because of the technology they're using (or their lack of understanding thereof), then we should be moving to technology that they're more comfortable with.

The current PGI's MWO staff consists of approximately three people.

As far as I know, PGI's MWO staff has:
  • no 'Mech artist - Alexander Iglesias left months ago.
  • no 'Mech modeller - Mark Nicholson left a few weeks ago.
  • no texture artist - Ditto for Mark Nicholson. Lauren Bamlett probably left months or years ago, since I have not heard about her for a long time.
  • no map designer - François left a few weeks ago.
With the very high degree of probability there is nobody working on MWO2.

Maybe thos guys went to work on MWO2, and they all signed NDA's.
Maybe PGI is making MWO2 with the expectation that if they don't renew their license, they can rebrand it as something else.
Maybe.
Maybe.

God I hope so...

I played and beat MW5. It was nice for the first 20 missions or so, but after that, it fell off incredibly hard.

Dumbo AI teammates
Extremely repetitive missions
No reason to not just use the biggest mech available

It's a shame too because the framework is all there for something truly magical

From what I know, EG7 has moved the majority of the remaining PGI's MWO staff to Lord of the Rings Online.

As soon as the Devs said they would not be adding Clans to MW5 i completely lost interest in it, It was a fun game but the game led up to clan wars and then nothing, the Devs then said no Clans till MW6.. That was me out.

I never even bothered to play the MW5 DLCs..

Dude, you need to try some mods. The MW5 forum here is dead. There is plenty of discussion over on the MW5 reddit you need to catch up on.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Mechwarrior5/

Pretty much everything wrong with the vanilla game has been addressed by mod makers. Your first point about Dumbo AI teammates for instance. There is a Pilot Overhaul mod that allows you to train pilots beyond their cap, with noticeable changes. I have one hired pilot who has 14 for the defensive traits. So good at avoiding damage that I put her into the CAR King Crab, which is usually a death-by-headshot trap. Plus, there has been plenty of discussion about what weapons to give the AI, and how to stagger weapon groups. I'm currently running most with combos of burst fire ACs, PPCs, and Stream LRM10's with really good results. Each weapon in it's own group, staggered by optimal range with longest range in the first groups.

To your other points, here is also Coyotes Missions, and a ton of quirked mechs that give you much wider gameplay opportunity at higher levels. Plus, you can always go back to lower missions and try to solo them with some of the lighter quirked mechs, or mechs with killers loadouts that Yet Another Mechlab Mechs and Clan Invasion mods add. Including flying Urbies!

Most of the updated mods are all compatible with each other. Most mod makers are collaborating with each other to make sure of that. It's an awesome community, give it a read.

If anything, they are working on MW6.

If you want the Clan Wars, try MechWarrior 2, MechWarrior 3 or MechWarrior 4.

Or the Clan Invasion mod for MW5.
https://www.nexusmod...naries/mods/622
After about 3045, you start seeing clan mechs in missions. Can build yourself a nice clan lance with salvaged mechs. Better yet, strap those clan weapons on some of the DLCs hero mechs, with quirks provided by Yet Another Mechlab (fully cross compatible with the Clan Invasion mod). You can get to that time period sooner by starting a career with FRR, or a Call to Arms career that starts you off with 8 mechs and 6 pilots. Use Save Editor to increase the cap of the pilots to 10, and Pilot Overhaul to change their names and graphics to make a nice Clan company.

Eventually I think we might be seeing a mod that adds Clan factions.

Thanks for the info.

I need some live acting in the game - or at least some voice acting would suffice. Actually evolving storyline with the elements of the BattleTech lore. Feeling that fighting the Clans - or being a Clanner - actually matters. Visiting some hot spots of the Clan Wars maybe.

Buying a Clan weapon on the black market somewhere or salvaging a Clan 'Mech during some more or less random mission does not feel quite the same.

As I mentioned to OP, you should check out the MW5 Reddit. There is a Save Editor that you could go and inject a full lance of clan mechs and weapons if you want. I injected an Cauldron Born in a new career and enjoyed using it as my command mech for the first 30+ missions over the summer. Pretty sure you can still do the same.

Of course I could, but I do not want to. Posted Image

The reason would be the same why I went through the MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries campaign without buying a ton of Daishis (even though I was sponsored by Wolf's Dragoons) and through the MechCommander 2 campaign without buying a dozen of Atlases (even though I worked for House Steiner). To put it simply, it would lessen the fun for me.

Salvaging Aisa Thastus' Mad Cat Mk. II felt much better than just going to the shop and buying one (or having one from the beginning). But that's just me.Posted Image

Will there be Mechs in LOTRO ?

1. Maybe we should switch there !

I would be in!

2. Will they also implement "Perks of coolness" for a "Staff of Fire" which does not overheat because the caster can blow 3% faster with each perk?

I would not be in, can also stick to it here .... :P

3. And will damage be also the first XP base there? No need for quests?

We all should definitive stay here ....

but seriously, i wished more Battletech awards after each match!
1 round of Ammo 5% damage or ML +1 Accuracy ...

And less deprevation perks. It makes having ECM not mandatory to get stealth.

But these are little changes that pushed the game from the core game to something a shooter!

By the way:
I find Steam Battletech now the best implementation of all games!

If you find the 32GB to run the junk engine on it, then you find a really good game there.

Played MW5, It is like MWO just worse in Gfx and gameplay (was made for consoles ...)

Your LotRO character must carry this ancient Elvish pendant. It was created by the High Elves in Gondolin in the Second Age. It provides +5% cooling bonus per spell. Posted Image

With the Premium Time, your character can complete all quests in the safety of Bag End.

As you have probably noticed, the reuse of the existing assets is the order of the day. Posted Image
