I know you're excited, but don't.
There's any number of reasons to not talk about a new hire publicly like that, with easy ones being 'they are new', and 'they have chosen not to be public facing'. If you still don't know what the role is, and what they're working on for MWO in about 4-6 months, maybe start asking politely then, otherwise just wait for PGI to say what they're READY to say. This isn't hiding, his isn't failing to communicate, it's just you being nosy while someone is trying to learn how to do their new job for the first time. They may well chose to keep their life and name entirely private, and to suggest otherwise is deeply invasive, and should not be forced on anyone.
Whoa there... I am most certainly not trying to be invasive upon this new person's non-PGI private life. Sorry for the misunderstanding, as I hope my following thoughts will reveal a different interpretation & picture in my mind.
I was thinking back to when you were on PGI Staff and your willingness to communicate along with helping others understand, which I really liked. Literally every booster pack you had a hand in, the Crusader Chassis and any Mechs before that, and anything you had to do with the Platinum Collection works too... Your work in those things left touches which others can see & think "This person really cares about helping make the MechWarrior Universe something which everyone can enjoy... We should never forget them." and is something everyone can always remember. (
That includes the Corsair Arms too, because I personally like the variations!!! I'm telling you, don't ever regret them!!!) In my mind, you created a positive standard for the better, one which others could seriously look to for guidance. Let us hope that others will not be left thinking it also means they are stuck with "giant shoes to fill" as the saying goes?
In contrast, it happens I then also remembered that while Francois was putting out some positively interesting work (
such as the added bridges & water to Canyon Network and how that changed the battlefield, along with things like the HPG Manifold layout changes) which I liked, they left me with this confusingly uncomfortable feeling in how they seemed to not have interest (
which also revealed itself in the Hellebore Outpost, Emerald Vale, and Terra Therma Classic Redesigned Maps that ultimately arrived, even though they are each interesting worthwhile designs of their own) in connecting with players. For the note of it, my personal standing is one of holding no ill will in regard to Francois (
and I am not trying to bash them here either) and hope that they're enjoying whatever they moved on to, but I was left with a hollow feeling by them. Looking back, it really could have helped a lot of things with MWO if they stuck around longer and engaged more, but that's merely my opinion as I may have missed something. Working towards a combined MWO improvement which could have a very worthwhile effect is no easy task for sure, but the whole of MWO appears to me like it gets better when Staff & Players are able to connect & communicate as a combined force.
Summarized, one could say I am simply of the hope that this new person will be more like you, '
confracto', about warm-feeling communication (
which you did right by the way... and have my thanks for it) in this regard, and less like Francois's stand-off style by a fair margin. I would rather the new person knows that they can pop up & communicate with the players, and that they will also find many of us with open arms ready to connect & work together with them. I will not ever do something mindlessly stupid like holding any hard negative opinion towards them if they choose to opt-out from engagement with the players. Everyone is only human after all, and each person has their own individual way of functioning... right? Here's to a hope that these thoughts clear away any unwanted & unintended negative misunderstandings of my earlier post?
Pardon me here... I think I'm going to go put a 'Like' on your post, along with the other two after it, each for its' individual reasons.
