Is it still relevant? i can imagine that if one is running an IS XL engine it would helpful...or am I wrong? Am all about maximizing survivability... And resisting the urge to jump in there and brawl at any given chance, your thoughts will be appreciated.

In my opinion it is best used on 'Mech that are expected to eat (a lot of) enemy fire.

On the other hand, there is no point in using it on let's say LRM-boat that would be firing its LRMs on a few hundred metres, often indirectly.

I imagine you would want it if you hate machine guns?
I personally can't fit it in my builds.

I think the levels did get bumped up in skill tree, but the only mech I even consider taking reinforced casing on are dual HGR assaults.

yes, unless you are running it in an st with an xl engine and using a torso mounted gr. that wont do anything.

i think you can also pad your gr with gauss ammo to slightly reduce the chance of it being rolled for crit. since it will be rolled but doesnt explode. this works with xl though you can only cram 2 ammo slots there anyway and its not a huge chance that it will do anything, with an lgr in an xlst 4 ammo gives you a bit better of a buffer.

If you have an open slot in the section with a gauss rifle, add CASE - it doesn't weigh anything. It wont save you if you are running the gauss rifle in an XL torso, but otherwise, yes.

"IS gauss rifles have a 90% chance to explode when destroyed and Clan gauss rifles have a 100% chance to explode when destroyed - dealing damage as a single hit to its location. The amount of damage an explosion deals depends on the type of gauss rifle."

Always and always... it's good to have if you got extra slots but for example this tns-5s is pretty tight on free slots so I do not use cases because cost of those would be too high IMO.

I think OP talking about the skills, not the CASE equipment.

I agree. I had the same impression, when I wrote my reply above.

Not anymore. They nerfed mg crits into the ground for both IS and clan. My lmg piranha used to crit out open components in a wink before the changes and now I often run them out of structure before anything gets crited. Mg and hmg are even worse. You crit more with lasers and lbx now it seems.

It will make your mech more durable. You won't lose equipment as much. I guess it depends what concept you're going with. If I go maximum survivability face tank style I take it and it does make a difference. Some builds won't benefit much from the firepower tree either, even though its tempting to take it it might be more worth taking casing in certain instances.

Or, maxing out Reinforced Casing skill nodes make your mech ore durable (structure lasts longer due to less crit damage), and might even help you get that Ace of Spades! ;)
