I have had more mental health issues but have returned. I have a few quick questions.
1. Should I or shouldn't I buy a joystick?
2. If yes which one
3. Best way to get the most out of the controls and be efficient in an assault mech. (I bought me a Warhawk, an old favorite of mine)
4. Best load way to customize my mech?

In my opinion the mouse and keyboard combination is probably the more effective alternative to the joystick.

Congrats!
Try quad ER PPCs and fill every empty room with double heat sinks. Good for sniping from afar.
Using ballistic arm for Class Ten or Class Twenty autocannon (Ultra, LBX - whatever you wish) and lasers in the other arm also works.
If I can suggest someting, avoid LRMs. On Saturday / Sunday PGI gave away a lot of Daishi C assault OmniMechs with ECM for free. You could have a problem getting locks.

It takes a lot more than that, as there are no respawns in what most consider normal gameplay. You also have to be lucky enough that the MatchMaker puts you with a Team which uses their Communications willingly, and coordinates well enough to actually have a fighting chance on the battlefields. Otherwise your death is virtually ensured in most cases, because your survival was horribly undermined by your Team's inability to keep each other alive during the course of gameplay.

1. Stay with your team, unless you really know what you are doing. Especially, if you are piloting the Warhawk.
2. Never be the only 'Mech that the entire enemy team can see.

Big no to joystick! Instead half your mouse speed. When u are done half it again. Then half and half and just to be sure it's not moving half.

But not too slow. Otherwise he would have a problem with the tracking of Locusts and Fleas.
