Why does the BAP in MWO not work like on the table top in that it is a counter to ecm?

No idea, well there might be explanation in patchnotes when ECM or BAP was introduced. loong loong time ago... 2012-2014? and ECM was nerfed heavily at some point because it was stupidly when it was released.

Russ probably just rolled some dice to decide what the implementation would be.

Pity, BAP could be widely used if it really cancelled ECM. I would use it.

"Electronic warfare"
They made it OP in the beginning for some reason. Guess they wanted a reason for TAG and NARC to exist? If BAP was the counter, everyone would just carry BAP on their mechs and ECM would be worthless because it was always countered.

I thought BAP did cancel one ECM when within 360m, as long as you don't have your own ECM?

This is correct, ECM and BAP do not stack, but BAP will counter ONE enemy ECM, although it won't counter stealth armor.

I don't even care about the ecm counter, the sensor range is just nice especially if you are trying to position into a brawl range. Most of the time by the point they are close enough to counter you are blasting away on their torsos anyhow and half the people in the game can't find the R button so it wouldn't matter if ecm existed or not.

I do not understand the question. BAP, CAP and CLAP do counter the nearest enemy ECM within range.

I think most people probably wouldn't notice one way or the other, at least in t4 combined drops there is generally so much ecm through all weights that even if you did counter, your counter would probably be countered by another ecm.

Its been a while since i played tabletop, so im not too sure here, but would you be expecting a BAP on your mech to counter ECM on every enemy mech? Because if so, the reason it doesnt do that is because it would completely invalidate ECM. Taking it would be moronic.

It does counter a single ECM if you're close enough to them for the effect.

Mechanics and balance obviously have to be different in a real time first person game with skill based aiming compared to a turn based top down board game with luck based aiming.

(Just as an example - the lack of red box advertising your position is probably the main benefit to ECM in MWO. How useful would that effect be in Tabletop, where you can see all your opponents minis and have no need to react under pressure?)

BAP is much like a platypus, it doesn't do much.

i liked living legends where everyone just ran passive, you didnt chase boxes, but mechs.

When your ECM gets disabled, stealth armour goes into cooldown. As long as your ECM is countered, you can't re-activate stealth. Stealth armour needs an active ECM in Disrupt mode to function.
