Essentially, if someone overrides the mech shutdown, they absorb infinite heat from a flamer, but the damage that deals to them doesn't contribute toward the flamer's owner. I managed to overheat two enemies to the point of near death in an earlier match, yet I ended the match with only 100 total damage, and lost pilot rank. There are also no points given for shutting down mechs due to overheat, and assisting in killing enemies by heating them up. I think this makes the Firestarter a poor choice, not because of the mech itself, but because the playstyle has no incentive to use. I don't like that the reward and rank mechanics actively discourage you from using flamers.

Damage Done From Flamers Doesn't Count?

as with all fun game mechanics still present in the game, they are all nerfed in order to keep the fun at acceptable levels.

They used to be fairly op but got completely gutted. Never a middle ground it seems with early balance changes.

Flamers work in reverse. If you over ride and use them you'll eventually over heat suicide but the mech you are flaming won't. They also look lame compared to how they use to look but people had to complain like whiny losers until nerrfed. Instead of cool looking flamers we now have an orange glow stick plastic light stick. Go watch the Ember Hero mech video for how cool flamers use to look.

mechs are heat capped to 90% when being flame'd. They won't stay past 100% when shut down + being shot by flamer.
