I think whenever I and 2 of my friends get together to make a 3 man group, it takes a very very long time to get a match upwards of 15 minutes on a weekend evening in US timezones.
Can anyone else confirm this?

I haven't waited 15 mintues, and I have played in 3mans..
My understanding is that after 5 minutes of waiting, the matchmaker eases the criteria to get in queue.
My best guess is that, at that particular time you were playing, there were enough 4 mans and 2 mans to effectively skip you in line. I'm guessing two 2-mans have priority over one 3man and a rando.

Yes, anecdotally as a two man or four man the waits are relatively minimal compared to as a three-man. I believe ASH and other cauldron folks have confirmed this as well, though I don't know if those confirmations are based on actual data or their own individual experiences as well. But yeah, the wait times as a three man are consistently worse.

Friday night was dropping with a friend and we were waiting at least 15 min per match when solo we would drop with in a couple minutes.

I've noted groups of two often have x2 or x4 wait time as solo drops. Groups of 3 are worse.

My understanding is MM tries to balance group numbers per team- ie a 4 against a 4, or a 4 against 2+2. A 3 can only match against another 3. I could be wrong. Either way, 3 appears to be the worst for group queue.

Friday night, dropping with two mates and the wait times just spiked after we added the third guy. Over 15 mins 5 times in a row, thank god for discord.

Update: ran into the same problem again last night, by dropping 1 or picking up 1 we cut our wait times more than half.

Can confirm 3-person group having significantly longer wait times than 2 or 4.
