Man, that's cold. However, at least they're not like the social generals of House Steiner.

There is no honor in buying your command. Praise be to the honor of the dragon

Wait, is it that Hasek, that later (during Jihad) tried to capture St. Ives for Davions, just to loose all the ground and his life, when Capellans thought that he killed Sun Tzu?

The most undeserved officers are undoubtedly Lyran leaders. Somebody with the level of family connections of a Hasek will rise quickly in any of the five great houses militaries however. We are all feudalist societies after all.
Draconis Combine officers have a well deserved reputation as fighting from the front however (some times to our own misfortune). You may say what you like, but cowardice is something that will not be accepted within our leadership, no matter what your name is. While a name may suffice in securing a position, it alone will not secure respect.
Lyran officers gain respect through who has the best parties on the other hand. They have capable officers, but unless you are well connected, a lyran officer rarely rises to a position of importance through mere capability Shockingly, you can actually purchase a position in their military!.
My experience with the Federated Suns officers (through fighting them over 30 years) has led me to see that officers from Regiments posted to their front lines are often capable, and courageous, while those from reserve regiments that are usually posted to their inner regions are more like Lyran officers.
I am not terribly familiar with Free Wrolds and Capellan officers. A Capellan officer who was posted with my regiment in an exchange program died well however.

No, I believe they do mean magnet. George is the son of Morgan Hasek-Davion, and thus would be under intense media scrutiny analogous to Prince William in Great Britain. Thus being a magnet and drawing the attention of the media for any little thing.
