If a dev is going to test OP weapons against players, I think it would be a best practice to:
1. Be transparent about with the players involved.
2. Award the players involved some small amount of MC as compensation for their time during the test.

That said, if you find yourself getting mad about a dev running a test during your Quickplay match, you probably need a relax a little.

It feels almost as though it's branching into abuse of powers, but also not entirely a bad thing to do. Suggestions of announcing to players what is happening, if doing live testing in quickplay events you might not be able to give bonuses... unless that's some kind of ability a gm has? I guess they might, since they can flip other switches? Mostly though, and I'm clearly biased, do it as an event, and let everyone take part in it, or at least have that option.

The problem with that is, if they do it as an event.. like Event Queue... And it turns out to suck, then they are stuck with a sucky event.

I think clan lights are a crappy event, I also think inner sphere lights, and urbie day, or weekend, or jenner... maybe they haven't done just jenners.. They've done a lot of events I haven't cared about, and that's ok. I wouldn't make a weapon testing event a 12v12 though, 8v8 max.

There are a whole 3 devs and people spent the last week crying that they need to test Legendary mechs to not need to nerf them shortly after releasing. Someone is play testing something to see how bad it is and now they're horrible for doing so. Who do you want them to play test against? Themselves? The testing ground bots? The cake you want to have and to eat at the same time?

Something like what Bungie and 343 do where if you get killed by a dev you get a skin or a title. Not sure if they'd be able to add in a new achievement like that, but it is something.

extra spicy event q with wild quirks for very specific builds could be fun. Someone recently said they can only turn off quirks and not add them though iirc. Would be great if they could implement something like that though.

Why do you complain when people ask that such a thing is announced at the start of a match?

Instead of researching the quirks of the weapons, it would be better if they investigate why the players in the game are so tense.

In my own home, in a dark room, wearing my pajamas, I sit and enjoy my coffee while simply looking around. :)

Keep your work separate from your personal life, in my opinion. :)

I assumed you'd left the server after calling everybody there a**holes for not agreeing with your assessment of the FNR hitbox (that you provided no reasoning or real argument for, and that they cannot change anyway.) But I see you stuck around to find something new to complain about on the forums.

How about we let Frost do the tests they need and not make a stink over something that doesn't matter.

He is still on there and welcome to stay. However if he wants to be banned from the server that's fine too;

Reminder that this is the individual for those who back this person thinking he's right in what he's complaining about. Randomly begins to spout ad hominem, then follows up by saying "well ban me! I don't care!" (Profanity censored partially).

It seems like he cares though if he came here to start complaining instead of in there. Sad.

I don't like testing in prod but at least they're trying to test stuff.
I find this to be very amateur, but at least the attempt is being made.

They can add armor, and speed, lower gravity, nearly remove heat (not heat spikes), and I do believe Frostbye made it sound like it could have been given to a player...

Now from the Official Cauldron Feedback channel

PGI_FrostByte — 05/25/2023 4:54 PM
Rather than give it to someone else and let haccusations and such fly, I just gave it to myself.

This isn't something players can do, but me trying to understand variables ingame.

This does make it sound like FrostByte could give it to others, but would fear players would then make hacking accusations. Maybe that isn't something that FrostByte can do, but again... that does look like it was being avoided, not just that it can't be done.

I do care about being banned here. I've brought up more than just the Fafnir there, and here. I'm far more active here, than I have been over at your Discord. I do think you people have your heads way to far up your own rears, and far to many megafans that just eat up anything you do regardless of it's actual impact. In my opinion, obviously. Which I know is wrong because it differs from yours.

Do keep redirecting this towards other complaints that I have, instead of staying anywhere relevant to topic. Because you people do what you want anyway.

I think there have been some decent responses here, and ideas from several people. So yes I do hope they eventually see it, and consider it. I don't understand why it is so hard for people to ask questions, or have opinions.. in a game forum about the game, and kind of one the reasons a forum would even exist. Are the proposed ideas so bad? Such as simply announcing at the start of the match? Or making it an event, or even asking if it is possible to be an event? Several of you seem to be taking this rather personally. So anyway, thanks for responding, and keeping it near the top!

The degree of negativity you are accumulating is less about the legit alternatives / proposals being presented in this thread, but about your backhanded tendency of "framing" a pragmatic test run on the live servers / live environment as disproportionate / stupid action while not taking into account, that setting up and sufficiently populating a test server / event queue / lobby for a singular weapon test potentially may have been a PITA / disproportionate effort for the involved persons.

Hey I never consented for my discord messages to be posted to the forums!

Also: My guess is that this is a consideration for a special legendary mech that can fire more than 2 Gauss rifles. If that is the case, by all means test it however necessary.

So many people here seem to think gauss is bad or something, more than two gauss at once will make this game HORRID
