The spotting system in the game is kinda wonky. Having to aim at someone, hold a button, and quickly click on something seems far too complicated for something that should be a simple task.

I propose we just simply have a hotkey that you can push when you have your aiming reticle on someone.

Lol, bruh... That is not a hotkey. Also, as-is it is quite difficult to spot small & fast-moving 'Mechs at a distance. Personally, I can use VOIP callouts, but not everyone has that function available to them.

+1 for this, the command wheel is awful.
it gets worse if you take command of your lance and even more when you take command of the whole company

I WOULD propose something like an ability to post call-outs on the map while holding the Map hotkey, but that would require having faith that all players of MWO are proficient at reading topography.

Then again, maybe this can be implemented anyways, and we all see how it works out? Then, instead of spotting with the reticle, we can just pull up the map and share a "point-of-interest" for the team to be made aware of. This way, players lacking VOIP do not have to wait for any Stealth snipers to peek out of cover again to point them out to their team.

You just have to be looking in the direction of said player and your radar system should pick him up, then just slap R to highlight him so he appears on the map for all your team to see.

If you have multiples in your view then keep slapping R to cycle through however many there is.

Issue here is that Stealth and ECM makes it impossible for your TC to register the hostile in most cases....

If you can hold the pipper over a target, even without a targeting box, and hit Spotted fast enough you can still flag them.

"fast enough" being the operative words... Difficult to do when it is a 'Mech that is either peeking quickly and minimally enough that you cannot tag them at a distance, or if it is a Stealth Light dodging about.
