I can't decide on the best way to build Oxide. This is probably the best build I've come up with and I'm not sure it's "ideal". Based on my Arctic Wolf experience I know I will burn ammo like crazy, so I hesitate to go below 5 tons.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I think I would upgrade the SRM 2 to SRM 4 so the cooldown is the same by sacrificing either ammo or engine rating, but does that trigger ghost heat? You could either adjust by one ton, or half ton on each.

shouldn't be ghost heat for four SRMs.

Half off each might be ok, I'd prefer to drop some speed over ammo. But I still want to go fast enough to evade LRMs. What minimum speed is needed to outrun LRMs?

Here's mine (XL280, 5 tons of ammo)

I used to be (like, 8 years ago) a huge Oxide main, but to be honest it's not as good as it used to be.

thanks!

After playing it a bit today, I'm seeing it has some issues. I bought it because I'm a big fan of the Artic Wolf (with four SRM6's). So, I thought this might be a speedier version with less armor. But the lack of ECM means it is a lot tougher to get close to people without being shot AND you have less armor to deal with being shot.

I also mained Oxide for a really long time. The high accel/decel and the missile spread quirk are the biggest advantages it currently has over other options IMO, and can allow it to safely poke from the max SRM distance without your missiles going all over the place like C-SRM6 would, but it does feel a little lame when you could just take a JR7-IIC or ACW-1 and fire over twice as many missiles at once.

It can still be a pretty fun mech if you play it safer, but it isn't as good at full-send backstabbing shenanigans as the IIC or ACW.

Yeah, my Oxide has a lot of cobwebs on it these days. It's still usable at my low tier level but you have to be careful about when to engage. In the end I used it more to escort assault mechs than anything else. It's still pretty good for late-game shenanigans when enemy mechs are beat up.

Good hunting,

I actually dusted off my JR7-IIC last night and tried it with SRM 2, 4, 6's and SRM 6's. (The arm geo gets larger if the second launcher is a 4 or 6, but not a 2.) I had trouble putting out decent damage in some matches. I think I was out of range some times. I normally play mid-range so 270 m is pretty short, and it's really hard for me to fight anyone that close and live long. The Jenner is oversized too, so that doesn't help. I also had some latency issues in some matches where I wasn't on the NA server. And I wasn't using Artemis so the spread was a bit much. I haven't played SRMs or lights in some time so I just have to relearn it. I was hoping it would be good for destroying components, but I was just going in too early in matches and dying too soon to get past armor. I'll have to play around more this week to get better.

The JR7-IIC is a backstab machine. You got to get really close, from the rear and if everything works fine you one-shot them.
The approach is most critical and sometimes not that easy...
