I returned after a LONG break, took a little to start getting my skills back so ended up down in T5. Down at T5 it is impossible to solo play to T4, you have to be in a unit and have at least a few other component players because win's count more for advancing Tier than anything else. You can do 500+ dmg in every match you play but without a win you do not advance much if any.

Add in the Event warriors in addition to the typical T5 tards and it's just horrendous. I really don't know what PGI can do to make it any better.

This is significant hyperbole. I'm a new player who just started playing a month ago (obviously starting at Tier 5), I've played 99 matches total with 39 wins and 60 losses and a kill:death ratio of 1.47 according to my stats page. Every match I've played has been solo quick play and I'm currently in Tier 4. Moving up to Tier 4 does not require a large amount of success.

When I returned it took about 100 matches to be a good chunk of the way through tier 3, and that's only running medium mechs solo drops.

But I was also on the t1/2 border bouncing back and forth and 90% solo dropping outside of faction play before I stopped playing years ago. Just from my experience I was was putting up 8-900+ average and forcing wins while rolling through the lower tiers, if you are just putting up the minimum + psr amount then you are probably more or less where you should be.

And like someone threw a switch the match quality is back to something resembling normal. Had a great time last night and games were fairly competitive overall. I wonder if the patriot weekend event that requires actual focused performance to finish helped?

He inspired me to make an alt account. I'll post my take on the "new player experience" soon, but one of the points is about groups in low tiers. Groups *are* way more common down there than I expected- however they are mostly really bad. They tend to be extremely underweight and don't seem to have any meaningful positive influence for the most part. Yes, some of the groups have players from known units, but they aren't the better end of the roster.

There was only one clear case of "better" players teaming up with a new account for lower match making, and I only knew who they were because they're mediocre trolls and their influence on outcomes was limited.

Most of the people down low are either newer accounts still learning and quickly progressing through, or really dedicated potatoes that refuse to learn. If they're stuck in tier 5 and bling others for it, the problem isn't MM.
