The Kitfox is my favorite light. I run 5xERML, 4xLMG, 3xLAMS, 4xJJ, ECM... It is my go-to support mech. I often pick it over my beloved mediums. If I'm feeling lazy, I swap the KFX-S JJ leg omnis and add another 2 heatsinks for better heat management. Edit: I just got out of a 900dmg / 3kill game... It's more than capable.
FLE-20, RVN-3L, UM-R80, LCT-PB for IS stealth silliness.
RVN-3L is a lot of fun. 2xERLL or 3xLPPC / SRMS... Great for stealth sniping or when you're tired of teammates blocking you and you just wanna *play* without obstructions.

Urbie K9 is a must have for everyone. The 5MPL build is less popular than it was, but still absolutely functional.
The most important part is the cheeky banter that turning your sirens on and asking for license and registration always generates. Fills in those first few minutes on polar.

I'll list a bunch of hero mechs from light to assault that seems interesting due to hardpoints/quirks. I'm not going to list any mechs that might not be good due to a different variant being better, another similar mech in the same weight class that does it better, or just picking the mech for just the c-bill variant.
Lights:
Adder Cinder (Unique ballistic torso hardpoints that gives ballistic quirks)
Kit Fox Purifier (Unique 2/2 side torso energy hardpoints)
Piranha Cipher (Mixed ballistics/energy variant, still has 15 weapons) PIR-1 or PIR-2 since same weapon boating
Locust Pirate's Bane (Stealth 20 ton mech) FLEA-20 similar mech trading MASC for 2 machine guns
Panther Katana Kat (Light PPC HSL+1)
Urbanmech K-9 (Receiving RAC Quirks in next patch, interesting RAC/5 build?, police sirens)
Wolfhound Grinner (5 Energy, ECM, shield arm) UM-R80 similar missing shield arm, but has JJ
Mediums:
Hunchback IIC Deathwish (Heavy Medium Laser HSL+1)
Huntsman Pakhet (Unique 2/2 side torso missile hardpoints, can run 8 missiles)
Nova Breaker (Unique 2 energy left torso hardpoints)
Vapor Eagle Rival (MASC, JJ)
Blackjack The Arrow (6 Ballistics arms + 3 energy torsos)
Cicada The X-5 (50% missile range quirk)
Uziel Belial (Light PPC HSL+1, receiving +280% MRM10 velocity in patch)
Heavies:
Orion IIC Skoll (Clan PPC HSL +1, MASC)
Cataphract Ilya Muromets (3 Ballistics hardpoints on different parts)
Crusader Crael (10 Ballistic Arms) Craels cost very little MC compared to most Heavies, might be better to buy on sale instead.
Marauder Bounter Hunter II (IS ER PPC HSL+1)
Warhammer Black Widow (4 Ballistic Torsos) RGH-BLT also has 4 ballistic torsos, but lighter
Assaults:
Dire Wolf Ultraviolet (Unique 2/2 Ballistic Arms, can run 8 ballistics)
Kodiak Spirit Bear (MASC, high engine cap)
Banshee La Malinche (Big quirks, but probably crap due to hardpoint location)
Battlemaster Hellslinger (Snub Nose PPC HSL+1) AWS-8Q can run similar
Highlander Heavy Metal (Unique no shake while JJ quirk like the scattershot) Quirk is not listed, but hardpoints might be hard to run a poptart build
Zeus Skokomish (MASC)
Cyclops Sleipnir (4 Ballistics torso hardpoint, faster assault than maulers/annihilators)

I second the Kitfox Purifier as the light Hero Mech of your choice!
It's the only way to get a +30% CBills bonus Kitfox.
(All other Kitfox Special Variants require real world money to buy: Loyalty, Platinum, and of course Invasion variants).

Adder Cinder - 2 UAC5
I grabbed one today when I realised the ammo quirk is +300%. Running it UAC10+UAC5 with like 1.5t each I think, and have way more ammo than my skill level is likely to use.
You can almost make 2xUAC10 viable with a bit of leg armour shaving, since the legs are +15 structure.

Total 74 armor with quirks for whole mech is bit low for my taste, this is with two tons of ammo aka 43 shots
(without skilltree bonus ammo, which isn't that much as it is only two tons of ammo).
