Howdy All,

I haven't played since before MWO required a separate launcher.

Should I get the steam launcher or is there a different launcher I should use?

If you're doing fine with your standalone MWO installation, then there's no point in switching to Steam Launcher.
Your standalone MWO installation also has a "Repair" function which the Steam Launcher does not have.

Anyways, I've been using the Steam Launcher for the past 3 years since my MWO return, and no issues with corrupted MWO installations either.

So take your pick!

You can use either. The Steam launcher would be preferable if you ever want to buy DLC from Steam that might be regionally priced for you (if you are in a different region). The Steam launcher also patches "smoother" maybe? I've used the Steam launcher since it came out. Be advised that they install the game to different directories on your computer so you can't freely switch back and forth or it will download the game a second time. However, your login information and everything else is exactly the same (except preference files it saves to the install directory like weapon groups and settings).

That's a yes. My account existed long before MWO hit Steam, you can log in through both clients exactly the same.
