How are you guys liking the INVISIBLE WALLS?!

It cost me three kills last match.

I HATE THIS MAP.

Essentially: Ditto all the complaints. I keep running into hills because I can't make out whether there's a path ahead. Interstellar travel, but we can't have functional sensory systems? We should have an overlay- or multi-vision option of 30% thermal + 30% night atop of normal.

I randomly get caught on only some of the debris that sticks out from the ground. We have no way to determine what to avoid as a navigation blockade. There's a spine of debris atop a hill, I think maybe near B2, where I watched I pilot get trapped in it -- even with jump jets.

I don't understand your problems.
I just did Event Queue in Atlas' for hours last night and had zero problems with the map.
I don't use night vision or thermal. I can see fine.

The lighting and visibility are brutal for my middle-aged eyes, which is why, for now, I actually prefer it when I get the pink version as I can see what is going on.

Clutter tying up mech legs I never like either, so less of that would help.

The rest of the map - size, layout, dead ground, etc, so far I am liking LOTS and this has the potential to be my favorite new map in a couple of years, once mentioned issues are dealt with, which I think can be pretty easily rectified.

Very good start for an early access map.

got some play in on Ceres in my LRM Boat (LRM-40 Catapult-C4) and i find the map works pretty well for it. i mean its no LRM free-for-all like old Polar Highlands but its worth bringing them. many of the hills are easy enough to gt up without JJs so you can get some high ground but there still more than enough cover for the enemy to break LOS or get behind something that can block your fire. on the plus there is plenty of space to get in good volleys and bonus for raining on snipers since most of the so far more commonly used sniper hills aren't 1200+ meters away so still in range (i honestly think LRMs should get a range buff with all the sniper play lately. they are still best used at under 500m but having something to annoy that sniper off in the distance that isn't another sniper would be nice. this is a conversation for another thread though so lets keep the LRM hate out of it)

also got in some Conquest play and the cap points are well positioned. i was a little worried about Theta being out in the open but there is a nice depression there so smaller mechs have some cover. (taller mechs can still be pretty exposed though)

Same here, I just find the color of and/or lighting style to make the map very bland. You can see that there are textures there but everything is so washed out it all looks flat.

I have to change monitor settings for this ONE MAP in ONE GAME to be able to see.

Horrendous.

He probably uses gpu software to deal with it. Altering gamma on the fly is a pain.

I don't do anything special.
I have my brightness set to .65, and my gamma set to 1.

That's how I always play every map.

Not really. I tweak it on every launch screen.

...Huh.

Okay. Beats using NV constantly I guess.

Also holy crap the amount of "accidental wallhack" from terrain not rendering in at distance is kind of crazy.

I use heat, almost never night.

But yeah, hit esc, settings, fix your sliders, save. You'll still have to stare at the loading screen for 20 seconds. Pretty easy.

Hi everyone, this is my first post on these forums, I had to say this somewhere, and this seems like the place to do so

I never thought I'd ever get mad at anything in this game, since I hardly ever get mad at games at all, but about 2 hours ago I played the junkyard again for the third time in a row, and I couldn't take it anymore. I apologize to my team and proceded to press alt+f4

I've never done that before, but this map is so bad, it made me rage. I already wear glasses, so I'm already somewhat visually impaired, so when this map blinds me even more... I don't even know how to finish that phrase.

sometimes I spawn, and I don't immediately realize the game has already started, because my screen looks completely black and I feel like I'm still in a loading screen

I've never felt even close to being upset about anything in this game, but this map alone made me shut it down in anger.

Have you messed with your visual settings? If it's that bad for you, I'd take it into testing grounds and play with your brightness, gamma, etc. It isn't actually that dark if you have your settings right.

Do. This is a solvable issue. It's a dark map, but with gamma mid and brightness high, it's not unplayable. I also have old eyes.

I could, but wouldn't that mess with every other map, where I can see and play pretty much fine, wouldn't be a better solution to just not make a black map. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't hate it if it had daylight, or better nightvision

The visibility is annoying, and getting hung on on random bits of terrain isn't terribly fun.

The visibility just seems kind of arbitrary and not "fun".

If the guy has vision problems high gamma on scrapyard will probably hurt, you have to turn it up quite a bit and there's still no contrast. I have no problems with vision and it's so unpleasant to look at with gamma up.

Its not the darkness itself that's the issue, there's no contrast between mechs and the environment that's causing the problem.

The fact that so many people are turning their gamma up outside of the game just for this map means its definitely off the mark.

Different monitors and brands show gamma/brightness differently.

Everyone's thoughts on Scrapyard?

-

I understand Its a work in progress, but so far I'm not liking it.

The map is very dark, thermals won't show terrain very well, nv won't show distant targets very well and normal vision is very limited too. One is forced to juggle visions and none really seems adequate at any one point. Of course you could just adjust the gamma out of game, but this should not be a requirement. Visually the darker tone is atmospheric and interesting, but it is so unfortunately at the expense of gameplay.

The lanes and routes are very tight with limited space for maneuvering which leads to static uninteresting combat and non JJ mechs being funneled and bottlenecked into kill zones.

The scrap cover sticking out of the terrain is inconsistent. Some objects you can shoot through while other scrap with apparently bigger holes in them you can't, making it hard to tell which pieces provide cover and which don't. Some objects you can straight up walk through completely, this is not bad in itself, but there's no consistency between which cover is real and which just visual.

The map seems to be fairly unimaginative, featureless and flat dynamics wise. The atmosphere and theme is great.

-

Suggestions for improvement. The lighting needs to be optimized somehow to create more contrast between mechs and the environment or at least improved to work with thermals better. The lanes need to be widened and bottlenecks fewer. Consistency in scrap cover needs to be fixed and preferably more routes and options for non JJ mechs to get to higher ground and out of the funnels. Some sort of prominent feature or highlight needs to be added to the map.

Agree 100% on all accounts. Excellent feedback.
