The Clans make their first forays into the coreward parts of the Periphery in August and September of 3049, then cease their advance and establish staging areas there.
The first wave of the Clan Invasion (known to the Clanners as "Operation Revival") enters the Inner Sphere proper (through the coreward areas of the Lyran side of the Federated Commonwealth, the Free Rasalhague Republic, and the Draconis Combine) in March of 3050.
MWO is supposed to be released in the Summer of 2012, which supposedly corresponds to the Summer of 3049 (if the dates on the ISN posts are anything to go by).
If that remains so and the Devs stick to the 1:1 time frame (one day in the game's universe = 1 day in reality) and the Devs stick to the canon timeline for those events, then the Clans won't appear in the Inner Sphere until the following March (that is, March of 2013).

P.S. The one item I still have doubts about is the Melee Planet entry. The author of that "factoid" was the interviewer, not a Dev.
With the announcement of Charging, they may be testing how to implement Melee damage model, but running into another Mech has no similarity to actual Melee combat as I understand the term.

- Timeline-wise, MWO will initially focus on various military interactions between the major players of the Inner Sphere, the Successor States. The developers have stated that, for the purposes of introducing major canon events, the timeline of the in-game universe will match up with our own, so that one year in the real world will equal one year's time passing in the BattleTech universe. 2012 in the game's universe is 2049; therefore, the Clans will not make an appearance until roughly a year after the game's initial launch, in 2013. Source.
I really hope they have mechs by 2049, I am definitely gonna go buy one when I save up enough

Games that were at much higher stage of development than MWO had features cut...

I hope this means that the devs will eventually let us use the Hatchetman or the Battlemaster since the Battlemaster "holds" a gun in it's hand instead of the gun being built into it's arm.

Just to clarify the game's universe is set in 3049 and not 2049. Must of been a typo i suppose.

- "MWO will utilize a free-to-play (F2P) model, and gameplay will focus exclusively on multiplayer interactions, with no single-player element planned. While the exact nature of the F2P model hasn't been explained thoroughly. The developers have stated they will try to avoid a Pay-To-Win theme, and have stated before there will be no exclusive Mechs or items available only for (real) cash."
I'm asking 'cos if they'll indeed avoid Pay-To-Win then i'll save up some cash before the launch to buy something from the shop.
(I never pay for games which are p2w instead of a proper f2p.)

Pure speculation on my part, unfortunately.
At any rate, I am excited about being able to play again. Running the in-game timeline in real time will be awesome as well. I can imagine getting into a situation where a critical battle happens while your machine is sidelined... OR for the most of us who don't know the nitty-gritty details of the invasion, hearing the reports of the incoming Clan war machine and wondering just what was happening?
Should be awesome. :-) Even if I don't get my Phoenix Hawk at last. :-)
