Hey, new player here. I have been playing for 2 days now (lots of hours) and I am starting to get confused.

My winrate is between 10 and 20%. Yes I am bad, I get it. But even if I do nothing this is not possible when the matchmaking does not do it on purpose.

So what is the deal? I am a person who plays games I enjoy for years and I am not shy on spending money. But I certainly will not on a game that has no fair matchmaking and intentionally makes players lose.
Is it to make new players spend money? It is not working, all it does is it makes them leave.

Or am I not getting something here?

MechWarrior games (including this one) require some learning, especiall in the beginning of your career.

Well, no. You have played 62 games so far. You won 21 games and you lost 41. Thit is a much better result than your estimated 10-20%. Posted Image

As I said, the learning of the game will take some time. MWO is not some traditional FPS shooter where you can jump into the game, start shooting things away and collect healing packs.

I presume that you have been using Trial 'Mechs so far?

Ok, so it is a 33% winrate. Not really much better and still impossible with an unbiased matchmaking. Even if I do nothing (which is probably pretty much the case).

I only played 1 game in a trial mech, I already bought 3 of my own. Bad choices for sure. But I will get a Hellbringer soon and the Stalker from the September event (yes I played a lot).

But I am only 1/12th of the team and the enemy team might have a useless noob too? How is 25% a thing?

The MWO matchmaking is far from perfect.

Also, as you learn some basics of the game, your win rate will improve.

Could you tell us what 'Mechs do you own? Some 'Mechs are better than others.

As you have noticed, the players are in five Tiers. Those Tiers lack granularity, so for example Tier 5 can include players ranging from beginners to quite competent players who are one step from Tier 4.

So we can say that the enemy team can also have a T5 player, but - no offense - better than you are.

No offense taken. 10 times as good as I am.
And the mechs I bought: let us just assume I made the worst possible choices Posted Image
There is a lot of bad and outdated info out there...(its a Panther, a Catapult and a crab).
But I am watching twitch/ttb now and get better infos.

Also I switched to 4K resolution and Very High settings. Sadly I still have to switch on VSync because I get 260fps which is way too much and heats up my gpu for no reason.

I should have said "more experienced".

High resolution and FPS are nice to have, but you do not need some extreme values.

I play the Crab with 2 PPC and I really like that weapon. For some reason I can hit well with it.
Problem is the low arms of the crab and the low alpha.
Is there a Mech with a better profile that can sport PPCs?

Medium, heavy or any other weight class?

You can try that Trial Thunderbolt with Heavy PPCs.

Nevermind. I have a Hellbringer Laserboat now.
Now I get it...some mechs are good, some are bad.
This works. Now I get green rating changes instead of red Posted Image

Welcome to MWO Hagen.

One of the ice things about the game is that you don’t have to spend any actual money to build a decent stable of mechs and related equipment and/or weapons, just time. Money will save you time, but it is not necessary to enjoy MWO and with a free mech given away every month, you’ll have a good set in no time.

Good hunting,
CFC Conky

Haha! That IS true, though once you learn the ropes you'll be able to make a much wider variety of 'mechs and builds work.

Another thing to consider is that the matchmaker is trying to seed you right now (it doesn't care if you win, it just wants to place you with even odds of doing so.) That, since your skill level as a total beginner is guaranteed to be far below some of the people you've been fighting - combined with not knowing how to optimize your builds yet - is what was causing your losses.

Yes thanks for all the help.
I just redeemed the Stalker Mech from the September event. When will it be available in my game?
The crank radio from the previous stage also did not show up yet.

Oh its an assault mech! Its already here :)

Usually it shows up shortly after you redeem it. Sometimes you have to wait 1 hour or so to get your 'Mech.

The matchmaker does the best with what it has available to it. The matchmaker is not intentionally designed against new players, but this game has a high learning curve and not a lot of new players to match with other new players, given it's age. Even so, performance of a new player is going to vary widely.

Always keep in mind, 12v12 with no respawns means matches are susceptible to the snowball effect. A disconnected, afk or otherwise inactive resp. ineffective player puts their team at a 11v12 disadvantage, which is likely to evolve into 10v12 and so on. This is only true for balanced teams, of course.

Your 'Mechs will serve you well, including your Tier 1 games. Posted Image Both are good 'Mechs.
