When spectating the best players this seems to always be the norm.

They don't panic and just calmly shoot everything in front of them in the face. Posted Image

The largest difference between top players and everyone else is simply how much time they spend firing.
If you want a higher score, shoot more.

I've watched other players like Tarogato in TY, and there's this particular way in navigating and piloting around the map.

I was told once, by a top player at the time, that the primary difference between elite players and others is simply how much they practice. That's what you're seeing expressed through calm, fire rate, and maneuver. Top players study the game, and in doing so play many, many hours; the difference shows.

Oh I'm not seeing a threat. I'm seen as a threat. Posted Image

Traveling nap of the earth is key to getting into position undetected. Infantry tactics convert quite well in this game.

Shooting is the easiest thing to do in this game. You want to know what separates top players from the rest? Situational awareness, and understanding of the game mechanics not related to shooting (like how to move from cover to cover, how to peek said cover at a 45 degree angle and not just hug the cover, how to avoid eating strikes, how to position the angle of your mech, mech legs for shielding, etc). Understanding the flow of the match and how best to exert pressure to swing the match in your favour every time. There are a lot of little nuances to the game that on their own doesn't seem like much, but all together is what makes a top player a top player.

This is a been there done that experience post.

Thats why I linked that exact video. It's all the little nuances that allowed him to kill several armed men unscathed. A seasoned gunfighter with decades of experience killing anything that moves or crawls vs a bunch of amateur deputy dogs.

In other words, practice.

And when practicing don't play musical mechs. Get really good at one mech then start to expand out. Different class and weapon builds require a different skill set to be developed for them.

the devil is in the details, thats for sure. consistently running the same builds probibly also helps, i run a lot of different things and i think that messes with my performance by a significant amount. be monogamous with your meta builds. cheat on them at your own expense. hell you can get proficient with sub-meta, even your anti-meta if you take consistency seriously. meanwhile i got new assault heroes to play with.

if i die too early in a game im not exactly going to wait for it to end to get my mech back. im gonna swap and stick with that mech until i have another premature death. then switch back. i usually also try to chose mechs of similar role and weight class so they don't play too differently.

I tend to have two of my favorite mechs built out identically. That way when I get vaporized early(happens to everyone) I can hop right back in and not break my stride.

he's right.

but when not talking about "the top of the top", but the difference between t4-5 and t1-2
then it's
"shoot more" for most of them.

when your heatsinks have nothing to do, you're doing it wrong (most of the time)
hitting stuff is a huge bonus, though ;-)

As much as I dislike dupe chassis the SHD-2K is the one I'd bother doing that with.

I don't have many myself. Just an handful of my most played mechs.

I have multiple Marauders of the same chassis version but they tend to have different load outs. I will probably be getting an additional Bounty Hunter of 5M to have three of each. The new MAD is definitely being added ASAP.

ive had games like that. the enemy is there, in range, and the team is there, in line of sight, yet there are very few outgoing shots. it is very hard to win trades when nobody else is trading.

There's a fine line to walk with "play it until you have it down" and "burn out/get bored with a chassis, switch gears to avoid bogging down". There are nights where my usual decent performers can't catch a break and I get so disgusted I start chassis hopping.

Thats a line only you can determine if you want to fully walk it. An example would be two kids of roughly equal base skill vying for starter positions on the ball team. Both get home from school and do their homework then go practice. One practices an hour then gets bored or burned out and does something else the rest of the night and the other practices until its time to go to bed boredom be damned. Who is going to get the position? So the question becomes is the effort to become a top player worth the effort for you? No shame if not because thats why we have a tier system so everyone can play at their level against others of roughly the same skill level. Until a sweaty tier 1 premade farms everyone of course.
