okay maybe not exactly balanced, it favored midrange if im 100% honest.

main culprit what made long range OP is ~800m optimal range on LL, PPC and gauss instead of previous ~600m
now i don't say revert back to old value, but please for love of mechs nerf quirks like "+25% AC/PPC velocity" and "+10-15%" range. they stack with skills and make game unbearable

ECM is a huge culprit as well in allowing this long range playstyle as well. Not being able to see enemy mechs around you via sensors allows people to kinda sit there with impunity.

And before someone comes in "use your eyes"...even the "comp" players are modifying config files to see easier. Of which the people who don't delve into the forums or anything comp for that matter are clueless to.

Sorry...but if something is so strong where you have to start changing config files to "use your eyes" as a counter....then you wanna sit there and say "take another ECM, beagle, NARC, and (most current common retort to nerf ECM) use a ppc to disable it.....ALL for a system that is COMPLETELY passive....equip it and forget it.

MWO: Video Settings, Reshade and user.cfg - YouTube
here is the stuff this man is talking about just to prove his point. ECM is countered by another ECM and that is sign of OP item.
On top of already shielding from vision on sensors it hides your paperdoll so enemies dont know if you are cored or legged.
Its main purpose was to kill LRM boating which it did, i cant even complete AMS objectives already. But that is point for another topic.

Yes I can remember time pre cauldron. It's the time I didn't play the game at all.

I can't yet decide if I find all those threads about the so-called "long range meta" being amusing in a so-bad-it's-good way, or just boring in the long run... keep posting them I guess, so I can make up my mind.

In the mean time, kisses from a kilometer away.

Has the range of weapons been changed at some point? I thought they always were 810m without quirks. Can agree with the range quirks mechs like Dire C doesnt need them imho, although I dont think many of the top tier sniping mechs have them aside from Dire Wolf (W LT) and MAD-IIC-D.

Cauldron aint a hive mind that prefers a single playstyle. From what I've seen they play wide variety of them. Next patch has big nerfs for Hags incoming although they changed the weapon from midrange to long range only, which I guess the weapon should be.

I'm gonna agree with Moadebe that ECM is a big help for snipers. I'm colorblind and have issues on detecting mechs visually so if I dont get the indicator for a mech I'm gonna get hit and it feels super annoying.

Yea, that was the last time MWO was fun to play. They made a game they liked.

Ever since the caludron the balance is skewed and wonky.

They've also completely destroyed or made obsolete all forms of missile weaponry, especially the LRM.

ECM is incredibly strong, yes. But, given we dont have an active/passive radar system or any other way to avoid having a red square flagging your position the instant you are in LOS, as a result making it close to impossible to use positional play to allow unreturned damage in small mechs.. i think it should stay. Maybe even be allowed on all chassis.

Aiming in this game is EASY, because the targets are so slow and sluggish (compared to a FPS like, say, UT). So there needs to be some way to be a little sneaky, imo.

before the skill tree there wer modules that would modify specif weapons like I think medium lasers and stuff instead of a full skill tree, and each mech had limited module slots I think my most used were advanced zoom and medium laser range as i want my C Er meds to reach at least 450 optimium.

I do think we could use real radar, but limit it to a certain range so that it's not OP. perhaps give lights the longest range to emphasize their scout nature... I remember playing Mechcommander with real radar at least it gave away enemy positions without telling you exactly what that contact was..... Like i mean you could tell if it was a mech or a vehicle though funnily enough fires would also set off the 'radar' I think something like that, which at least gives you a warning something is coming might be better nothing as fancy as the motion tracker from the halo series... another thing i noticed while reading on the lore of BAP and CAP is that they include seismic sensors so maybe having a probe should add a basic seismic sensor?

I am not sure if I would agree with you on "all forms of missile weaponry", but I think that I would agree on "all guided missiles."

i wouldn't mind having an equipment item that gives you a sort of radar. not something that gives a target locks but something that would act like say an extended range seismic. just gives a ping on your minimap no mech size or other information just that there is an enemy at so and so location. make it a 1 slot 1/2t item perhaps that works out to say 200m (perhaps allowing sensor range increasing equipment/skills to effect its range). though i would doubt anyone would use it with how people treat an non weapon/HS equipment most of the time. perhaps let it reduce (but not eliminate) the effectiveness of ECM within its range. sadly this would require dev time something PGI is unwilling to devote any resources to.

I honestly don't really notice a difference from the game now and the way you played from when Night Gyr first dropped over 5 years ago, seems to be mostly the same game. The only difference over the years honestly was the dissipation buff and the brief Snubpocalypse. For the most part, the mechs that did good over 5 years ago still do good, in fact some got buffs.

Cauldron actually nerfed ECM (see Jan 2023 patch notes and then an additional clan nerf Aug 2023 patch notes) and also nerfed Radar Deprivation (see Dec 2022 patch notes) but let's not let facts get in the way of your argument here.

Guy's a good player and communicates with the team. He actually does have a good attitude. In fact complaints about sniping seem to mostly come from people who would rather not communicate or work together, instead preferring to happily sit in their own bubble rotating around the map without a care in the world. Unfortunately even at T1 we have to play with these people, so the best thing we can do is shoot them to bits.
