Its rather short sighted to just shove it into everyones face all the time.

I am lonely at Christmas and have no one who wants to listen to me.... so I will get online and complain. Hopefully I will get some virtue points and try to make other people feel bad about having family time. Is that about right?

Get a goddamn life instead of demanding everyone else stoop down to your level of being miserable.
Take your ace of spades title and let that determine the worth of your life because that is all you will ever amount to in life if you are that pissed off about stupid things. Worm!

Are we celebrating holidays of preferred religion of MWO devs, or religious holidays in general? If it's first, then we are simply playing authoritarian version of "Simon says". If latter, then we should also celebrate Ramadan and Divali.
I would assume that most "grown men" would go ape-poop crazy if MWO would celebrate Islam holiday.

Its being done in almost all games nowadays though.
Im fairly neutral about this, as i like christmas, and i have people to spend them with, but i can totally understand frustration of people who don't have anyone, or simply have another reason, and they want, or need a sanctuary in games to escape from it.
Also, christmas have been twisted into symbol of capitalism and consumerism for few dozens, if not hundred years in western society.
I've been seeing christmass advertising from 1st of december, used by banks, clothing/food chains, insurance companies and other corpos, telling people how they should get joy, love and happiness for themselves and for their loved ones by buying their product, or subscribing to their services, totally abusing the meaning.
Out of 100 advertisements, only few will tell about Jesus Christ, or bible or whatever christianity info. They cleverly hide behind good intentions, by saying their product and/or service is good intention. I mean LOL. Only a blind person can't see that. Im not religious, but even i can see that.

why would anybody care what is celebrated in a videogame?
it's a game.
at the WORST, it just wouldn't bother me, and at best I'm glad this content is in the game.
celebrate your Ramadan, your Divali, your Xmas, your WHATEVER-REALLY.
poke the devs, there's a good chance they include it in some way with an event or so.
if it's totally not my thing, I just shrug it off with a "whatever" and continue with the game.
doesn't take much AT ALL to behave a little open minded and grown up from time to time.
then again.. some people just never grow up. no point in having a discussion with those.

For example, how would an in game representation of Ramadan be perceived?
For me it's just a philosophical question though, it doesn't actually bother me. And you can also argue developers have a right to project their culture into the game if they want to.
