Because why wouldn't I? They effectively replaced LL.
They match a LL or ERLL optimal dmg at 720m.

Compare them to Clan Heavy, they are still better, faster, cooler.

Let me put it this way-
Prior to the weapons patch, Clan Heavies were intimidating to me.
Binaries are stronger- they pump out dmg faster, with a shorter cooldown- and they have IS quirks backing them up.

Slight correction on the ranges. LL/Binaries has a 480m optimal damage (LL range patched 7-20-21), ERLL has a 740m Optimal range (patched 7-20-21) before skills/quirks.

Binary has an optimal range of 480m doing 18dmg, meaning at 720m it matches a LL/ERLL for 9dmg.

Tonnage is everything....what?

Tonnage allows the ability to boat more weapons, more heatsinks, more targeting computer to push the range. Other than critical slots it dictates what you can run on the mech....period. The stacking of weapons on a heavy/assault mech COUPLED with the duration and hitscan and all your other argument might be better.

Only focusing on the duration as an argument and ignoring the other factors at play is not a good argument dude.

I could see making the HSL of binaries where if you fire more than two at once it hits the same ghost heat as firing the equivalent amount of LL.

Meaning. BLC is essentially equal to 2 LL. Minus one ton. You fire 3 BLC = firing 6 LL ...ghost heat and all. 4BLC = 8 LL

You see where im going with this (i hope). Make it absolutely punishing to push that boundary, but this type of thing wouldn't hurt the low hardpoint count mechs who really benefited from them being added to the game.

You are worried about making equal trades via the duration of the weapon when the sheer amount of firepower being brought with the capacity to handle them is the problem.

Tonnage doesn't matter because if only 10 mechs have the tonnage to use the weapon effectively, then those 10 mechs will be played. I'm not arguing about how many mechs can run a weapon, I'm arguing about the mechs that are actually running the weapon.
Is an AC20 bad because a flea cannot run it? No. You debate the mechs that actually run it.
Does that make sense?

Not really because we're talking about 'mechs that would also have the tonnage to run 2 LLs.

and the talk of adding splash to these projectiles

The idea kinda works if it was meant to ensure damage spreading around. The problem is that, it goes through shielding. I'm afraid of the prospect.

Someone asked this on the feedback server, I think it may have been you? lol

Well, I use the same name across the internetz, even in Fallout 4 Modding scene. I'm sure you'd remember if it was me. xD

But no, it wasn't me, like I said, I don't usually question the technical side of things, you guys know your system and I don't. I just raised it this time so that we get a direct explanation from a credible source, so people would stop asking to change the volley size. Don't get me wrong, I like the 2-damage slug, but again I concede to technical issues.

Though in retrospect, I don't understand the point of all these physics simulation like gravity -- like what does that add to the game being that realistic? Projectiles are typically so fast anyways, and fired in so much frequency to compensate that it becomes underutilized, it's so unlike the sniping games that having to carefully land a hit at a target is so much of a puzzle.

Take it from Lord GabeN:
Spoiler

But yeah, no engineering support.
