I'm an older player returning after a long time, and Google has failed to give an answer to this question.

Before I stopped playing, running both ECM and BAP (or CAP) on a 'Mech had a buggy interaction that made them cancel each other out. I believe this was eventually patched so both worked, but then there was a new bug where running both would kneecap the range of the active probe.

Is this still the case, or has all that been resolved?

If you equip both the Guardian Electronic Countermeasures suite and Beagle Active Probe, you boost your sensor range to 1000 metres, if this is what you are asking.

The same is true for the combination of the Clan Electronic Countermeasures suite and Clan Active Probe.

if I remember correctly, there was something about "ecm acting up / wouldn't work completely" when you combined it with a probe on the same mech - years ago.

and I think this is no longer the case for quite a while and nowadays you get the full advantages of both.
otoh I don't actively play anymore/a lot and when I do, I don't look out for things like that, so .. Posted Image

I think it's been solved, but others will probably be more informed Posted Image

Hey, a warm welcome back to MWO!

Equipping both ECM + BAP on your mech, prevents you from choosing "Counter" ECM mode (ie: disrupt one single enemy's ECM to make it visible on the radar). But equipping both ECM + BAP still protects your mech via your ECM.

By the way, while you've been away:

1) A few mechs have "Enhanced ECM" which is -10% Target Range Reduction.
AS7-D-DC, AS7-K3
https://mwo.nav-alpha.com/mechs

2) ECM protective bubble is now only 90m, down from 120m.

There is a bug in how they counter an enemies ECM. Currently BAP cancels out an enemies ECM at a range of around 360m (If im not mistaken.) If you place ECM into counter mode it overrides the range of BAP and will only counter ECM within 120M (perhaps now 90m after the recent patch.)

You should be able to equip ECM and leave it on disrupt with a BAP equipped and the BAP will keep the longer range to counter. At least this is my understanding of this.

Side note. ECM does nothing for your own sensors as stated earlier. It reduces an enemies sensor range while causing a disruption of an enemies sensors in close range. It does not extend your own sensors. BAP however does extend your own sensor range.

That's what I was remembering.

Thank you, it's good to be stomping around again. Are you 100% on BAP preventing you from using the ECM counter mode? Dropping in to the testing grounds with both on a 'Mech I'm still able to change modes.

the bap will counter for you at whatever the stated range is the ECM in counter mode within the right range( recently reduced from 120-90) will counter the ECM for your teammates as well

they both have their uses even together but they do two different things

If you have both ECM and Active Probe equipped, ECM cancels the counter ability of an equipped probe. You'll have to use the ECM's counter ability to cancel an enemy's ECM.

And now I'm even more confused than before I asked. People have claimed every scenario to be the current interaction.

Is anyone willing to help me test, to get real data on what is happening?

No need for that, see
https://mwo.nav-alph...rmation-warfare

note: the wiki hasn't been updated yet to reflect the most recent changes to ECM range (Dec Patch)
