What the hell happened? Its never been this bad.

As far as I remember, it has always been like this during long running, grindy events, or during events with very specific challenges. IQ just crashes when people chase the next UAV Detection and such.

I don't mind less than optimal players, its a PVP game, you'll have those. I don't even mind if there are a lot of them online, as a rush of players is good for the game.

What I mind are the facepalm players. I faced down a Centurion Onyx the other day that was armed with a RAC/5 and 3 medium xpulse lasers. This player... paid real money for a mech with a giant shield... then chose a weapons loadout that would prevent him from torso twisting and using said shield. Posted Image

I noticed grinding the alt that lower tiers have a much higher proportion of legendaries than upper. They are generally... Interesting builds too.

It's what some people forget when discussing balancing- for every meta build played well, there's potentially dozens of potatoes in bracket builds influencing the mechs stats. A moderate nerf to the upper end may cripple the potato end that much it doesn't sell at all.

Yeah, I'm pulling out all the builds I haven't run in a while and scrapping a few of them...

Vulcan 5S... 3 snub PPCs... it has ghost heat now and the range quirks went away...
Dervish 6MR... haven't run it since they changed the MRM quirks to LRM quirks...

And so on. Some of my clever builds have become quirkless builds. Must adjust.

Well if they made a center torso kill count as all components remaining count instead of one less people would be for for arms and legs. even though a side torso nets 2 components destroyed.

I had a match on 12/24 where a team mate asked how to power down his mech. I'm tier 1.

I can't wait for the holiday break to be over and things go back to 'normal'.

It's like asking how to activate speed twerkz, how to eject, plz hold locks for LRMS, etc. No one is asking them seriously.

I think. I worry about some of the hold locks ones, but I'm pretty sure they're joking...

To some extent.... but the over-abundance of extraordinary incompetence makes many matches a waste of time. Maybe they're incentivised to just smash through as many matches as they can? I don't understand what they're trying to achieve.
Arguably, there's lots of combat at reasonable ranges now... which I guess is better than click-to-win at half-a-mile. There's precious little agency though.

There's another thread wondering about the newfound popularity of LRM's. The answer seems pretty clear to me; I suspect at lower levels (it's difficult to tell while I'm in tier 3, sometimes higher tier players are just as suicidal as others) there are always people, often in assault mechs just wandering around in the rain. Even just last match I watched as a big, shiny platinum Atlas walked up a ramp from cover, alone, to face tank what must have been three or four LRM carriers (not necessarily boats) at range. In just about every match there are people just walking through long range fire and storms of LRM's as if there's no possible alternative.
In balance to that of course, players who quite clearly should make use of their range advantage, waddle into the mess, so I guess it all balances out?

There's a non-trivial number of players out there who appear to have no idea the R key exists. Forget holding locks for LRMs, try and get a paper doll for yourself so's you can see what to shoot and give their location to the rest of your team. Everything beyond that is gravy.

I am pretty sure that many seriously expect me to get killed holding locks for them, while they are farming damage from behind the hill.

Do not worry, this will be over in a week.

These are just people unwilling to learn, so they keep repeating the same mistake(s) over and over again, game after game, year after year. They know what killed them or what caused their team's defeat, and they do it again in their next game.

Bonus points if they have the Founder's badge, which mean that they have had literally a decade to learn the game ... and failed.

Some of us are telling people "always use R key", while others are telling people "R is unnecessary, you don't need it, don't wait for paperdoll."

A competent player knows when to choose between these two possibilities ... and needs just a split of a second to decide correctly in any given situation.

... and then there are the people that edit their user.cfg so it won't autolock after holding reticule on target for long enough, just to make sure they never accidentally hold locks for LRMs. It's a power move. Chicks dig it.

That is probably the only one I wont be able to complete. I think I've gotten 4 head shots in the 2 years I have played, maybe only 3 head shots. I know one was an Atlas and the other two were King Crabs. I got lucky with those.

I thought I'd be the same and I didn't even notice when I did it - just checked on the rewards and noticed that one had a little blue REDEEM next to it.

So don't give up - if I can do it anyone can!

I'm revisiting a few of the mechs I had and looking at the quirks again. The weapon changes alone have seriously jacked some of the builds.

One of my revamped mechs is the Charger 1A1 which was always a bit of a meh mech. But if you add a large laser of your choice and 6 small lasers, all of a sudden those 6 small lasers are doing .5 sec cooldown and almost double the range with almost no heat courtesy of a -65% cooldown quirk, a +65% range quirk and -15% heat. Beef up the torso skills and right now I'm taking great delight in popping lights, especially those who wander up with flamethrowers. Posted Image

Bit of a **** move by them - I always lock mechs just in case and muscle memory makes it pretty much automatic now.

Better yet, 7 ER Smalls and a massive Target Computer. Including skills, the optimal range of those small lasers is about 400m. Posted Image

Edit... 382m. close. =)
