So it's 2024, which means it's still [checks notes] a long freakin' time before I can drive a real mech. BUT the quest 3 and several other VR headsets are real things, as are powerful GPUs.

Who plays MWO in VR and what are your tricks? Using 8 year old forum posts (basically this one: https://mwomercs.com...on-oculus-rift/), I have video piped to the quest and head tracking is mostly working... but there is no binocular 3D, no depth. Changing vorpx 3D mode appears to do nothing at all.

So, rather than try to necro that (admittedly impressive) solution, let me ask afresh: How do you make a VR MWO setup work?

On a probably irrelevant note: are there any circumstances under which that "3D mode" setting can be toggled on, or is it like the "close door" button on an elevator that's just there for show?

I think you're the only one who's asked that question in the past 8 years, and I'm not aware of anyone trying to play over VR. But I'd love to hear it if they are!

I would 200% play in VR. Mechwarrior titles are the perfect fit for it.

Well, the second best MWO immersion would have been a MWO Super Pod, which MWO tried to give away (sans transportation fee--paid by the recipient)...

Would have been a nice way to play MWO ;)

been using my quest2 in mw5 using mods. im not sure id do that in mwo because of its competitive nature. but it would make my gpu actually do work during gameplay.

If they offered that now, I would probably get one! I wasn't making that much back then and I had a car payment. Now I'm doing much better! Don't know where I would put it though... Who needs a bed anyways?

Been playing a lot of flight simulator on my Quest 2 so I simple don't play flatscreen anymore... and I'm suffering a lot of withdrawal from not being able to play MWO in VR. CryEngine supports VR and Mechwarrior is perfect for it IMO.

i do like using the vrwarrior mod in mw5 mercs (idk if it works for clans yet). not sure if there is a way to get it to work in mwo, this version of cry engine is quite ancient. putting on your head set is like donning your neurohelmet. much immersion.

ive really been less than impressed with virtual reality in general. i dont think ive had my headset out in over six months.

Just FYI someone got this working soon after the game released when VR was becoming big. They said it was fun but doesn't actually help you play better so they stopped.

That said the headsets had poor resolution back then.
