Do you know anything about BattleTech / MechWarrior? I mean, do you prefer The Inner Sphere or the Clans?

Stone Rhino "Aksum" maybe.
Fafnir perhaps.

Daishi "Ultraviolet" maybe.

Fafnir perhaps.
I don't have a heavy preference once way or another when it comes to Clan vs IS mechs personally, they're both pretty cool for various reasons. I'll check those three out, appreciate the input.

"Ultraviolet" is OmniMech. The advantage is that when running ballistic boat gets old, you can swap OmniPods and turn your OmniMech into missile boat or laser boat. Or you can simply swap OmniPods to get hardpoints that you need.
There are even OmniPods with jump jets available, should you need them.
This game has dozens of 'Mechs and hundreds of their variants.
Mad Cat Mk. II "Moonwalker" and "Deathstrike" are also good.
Or would you like to try something lighter?

The tonnage is fine Any non-heroic suggestions? not sure how much cash I want to drop on the game just yet.

Or check Blood Asp A and B. Mad Cat Mk. II MCII-B for running quad ballistic combo.
As I said, there are many 'Mechs in MWO.

Try Stumbles for that Stone Rhino. Muahahah.
The Blood Asp is an exceptional chassis. Make it easy on yourself and take one with ECM, then use it as a weapons platform. Although it's still 90 tons, its minimal armor quirks make it vulnerable to being focused - but with 3 UAC/5s and a UAC/10, no one will want to trade fire with you.
Stalkers are a great chassis, and they are well-represented in competitive play. They don't quite have builds like you're enjoying, but they can do laser dakka with X-pulse, or brawling via medium -class lasers and SRMs.
The Sun Spider D is a great dakka 'mech, as is the Nightstar 10P (ignore the RAC quirks and use 2 ea. UAC/5 and UAC/2.) The Mad Cat MKII is available for c-bills, and it's a great chassis for doing builds like your Stone Rhino. Additionally, several Marauders do dakka or short-range builds very well.
For branching out into other chassis, try the Crusader 6T. It's energy based, but with 2 Snub Nose PPCs and your arms full of small lasers, you're a force to be reckoned with - a Heavy with good hit boxes that can run 82kph with an XL.
There are a ton of 'mechs out there, particularly as you branch out and learn new weapon systems and chassis, but those are the ones I'd recommend for builds similar to your Stone Rhino, off the top of my head.

With hindsight of being a returning MWO player four years so, suggest you play the 16x Trial Mechs (4 in each category Assault/Heavy/Medium/Light) to get a feel of your mech playing style, for:
1. Assault / Heavy / Medium / Light?
2. Ballistic, Energy, or Missile weapons?
3. IS or Clan?
~~>Only you can answer these questions yourself, and then we can sit down to suggest which CBills mechs you should eventually aim to acquire for your MWO mech stable! (Kickstarting your MWO game account CBills economy is by far the hardest part of this game...)
Don't get us wrong; we would gladly give you all sorts of MWO advice!

Trust me. It matters. This is also my current version where I lost a ton of engine to swap the TC for a jump jet - I'm considering going back up, which will yield a blisteringly fast top speed of 51.4kph.
