Had not seen a detailed listing yet of what control schemes may be available to players upon MWO launch, so I thought I would get a poll out to see what people prefer. A comment about your preference would be helpful to others as well.

I played MW2 with keyboard, but MW3/4 with stick. There was a big debate in the MW4 competitive community about which control setup is truly superior, but there never seemed to be a clear winner. Joysticks always tended to offer more foot and maneuver control, but mice would offer superior accuracy.

I go with mouse/keyboard setup. It's because I like the accuracy it gives you and I don't have anything else (for mech control). ^_^

Keyboard and joystick for me, but hell, that was back in the MW3-MW4 days with a Sidewinder Precision Pro (which I still have might I add ^_^ ). With this new MW, I'll have to see what they support to make any final decisions.

I usually stuck with keyboard and mouse. Part of that is because most joystick/throttle setups are for righthanders only, which puts me at a disadvantage. It's also what I've been using since I started playing MW2 and I'm too set in my ways to want to change now.

I usually use the god old keyboard and mouse, but I would love to use a HOTAS with pedals, but that is a rather expensive setup to get, and I really don't have that sort of money right now.

My control set up in detail is...

Mouse controlled aiming and turning
shift-Q target next friendly
shift-E target next enemy
Z/X accelerate and decelerate
1 toggles the zoom window
2/3 torso twist
4 shutdown/startup mech
shift-4 overide auto shutdown
ctrl-4 startup mech
S stop
F change firing mode
shift-F flush coolant
C centre
shift-C crouch
ctrl-C disable auto centering
up/down change nav point
Left/Right or mousewheel change weapon group
shift-left/right change MFD functionalitys
T chat
shift-T teamchat
Spacebar command All lancemates

The rest are default.

And Q/E look left and right

This may seem like insanity but if there is any chance my Xbox 360 controller could work with MWO that would be ideal. Consol games have been my 9 to 5 for over 4 years. I know my friends and I are going to want to play MWO, but switching to a mouse and keyboard will limit the number of people I know who take up the game. Anyone know how hard it is to enable different control devices for a game like MWO?

That depends on the game itself. If it has 25 keys actively used on keyboard + aiming and firing with mouse, then any porting is thrown out of the window, because joystick has roughly 10 buttons. B)

there is a USB version of the xbox controller. I would not suggest using it, though, keybpard and mouse players will run roughshod over you. One article to give you pause. there are many other articles out there about the subject, check them out (use "gamepad vs keyboard and mouse"). I have the xbox usb controller specifically intended for a PC and I never use it after my first few attempts. I declined to add gamepad because of this reason. Should I add it to the poll just to cover the base?

I also invite responders to post a picture of their unique setups just for grins and giggles.

Of course Mouse and Keyboard... mostly due the fact it does not demand me of pulling any kind of fancy toys from the closet just to play this one game and I am simply used to it.

I like a joystick that provides a SHIFT function (so you can apply a secondary action to each button) After maximizing the majority of controls onto the joystick, I supplement the remaining functionality with the keyboard.

I always buy a cheap/moderate stick because once I got used to a stick's layout, acclimating to a new one took too long. Through my MW3 career, I would not be joking to say that I went through about 10-12 Microsoft Precision Sidewinder's. And every last one of them died in the same way; their torso twist became loose so that when I was not twisting, the stick thought I was.

...makes me wish I was mechanically inclined enough to take those things apart and fix them... I'll have to settle with being technically inclined. B)

Most likely it was an issue with the spring action in their base becoming lose. Methinks a simple replacement spring would have worked.

I have a bad habit where any machine I open for "repairs" is reassembled with more pieces leftover than I began with.

Heh, I managed to take apart my Cyborg X the other day and I only lost a single, very very small (about 5 mm) torque washer. I was trying to clip it around the screw when it just popped out of my pliers and vanished into thin air.

As a general question to anyone who will answer: What do you think of the Saitek x52 pro? Since the Thrustmaster Warthog is pretty much out of the question, I was aiming for the much cheapter X52 pro and wanted to know how it felt and performed.

I prefer a neurohelmet.

Until that becomes a reality, I will make do with keyboard and mouse.
