Joystick always (MW2,3,4). Started with a Sidewinder for many years, but now I've used several Logitech Extreme 3D Pros. Very comfortable for me, and I use one of the buttons as a shift key. The VW cockpits use a modified version of these: http://na.suzohapp.c...ks/95025100.htm
They use proprietary optical encoders and are a little pricey for home use. I will probably spring for a HOTAS setup, but something that doesn't require as much $$$ as a cockpit. lol

Keyboard. Only keyboard. At least for MW1 and MW2. B) I guess I dabbled with the mouse in MW3 and MW4...

In past Mechwarrior games I used the Joystick/Keyboard combo. It is very important you have the right joystick, or one that works for you. At first I ran a programmable analog joystick, can't remember the name of it, it worked well. Many programmable buttons but the fact that it was analog hurt accuracy. I then upgraded to a MS Sidewinder Forcefeed back Pro, not quite as many buttons, but much more accurate and the ability to torso twist on the stick can make or break a Mechwarrior. I am thinking I may need to upgrade yet again as my old Sidewinder is not USB and I am not sure if it will be supported. I plan on doing some research once the supported sticks are announced; hopefully they will be. Then, I might have to make a purchase. B)

That depends on the game itself. If it has 25 keys actively used on keyboard + aiming and firing with mouse, then any porting is thrown out of the window, because joystick has roughly 10 buttons. B)

there is a USB version of the xbox controller. I would not suggest using it, though, keybpard and mouse players will run roughshod over you. One article to give you pause. there are many other articles out there about the subject, check them out (use "gamepad vs keyboard and mouse"). I have the xbox usb controller specifically intended for a PC and I never use it after my first few attempts. I declined to add gamepad because of this reason. Should I add it to the poll just to cover the base?

I also invite responders to post a picture of their unique setups just for grins and giggles.

Console nerds live with the controller in our hand. It would be nice if you added it to your list for votes (even if I am the only one lol). How many buttons do you think you will need to play MWO? I have the same USB Xbox controllers you mentioned. There are 14 buttons you could map not including start and pause. If one joystick controls the turning or direction of the legs and the other controls the torso and its direction. How many more buttons do you need?

With over 10,000 hours playing Xbox games behind us, and however many more thousand hours used on other consoles with controllers before that, a hand held controller becomes part of the consol gamer. Those muscle memories are part of the immersion now. A mouse and keyboard (very accurate and more then enough keys for controls I agree) remove that player from an immersive state. I would prefer a chance to at least try this game with the controls I have lived with the last 24 years.

I looked these things up and can't see me trying them out at all. Joysticks have no appeal either. I can't help but think I am trying to play MWO not **** it off lol. Seriously though, how hard is it for MWO to allow Xbox 360 controller to be used as a control option. I doubt I will be the only console nerd to fell the need to use one.

I prefer a neurohelmet.

Until that becomes a reality, I will make do with keyboard and mouse.

If possible I'll be using my flight sim setup with joystick, thruster, and petals.

It's gonna be dope B) I'm only hoping that you get jarring effects when moving so aiming isn't like MW4 supreme accuracy etc. That way mouse and joystick will be on equal footing.

Forgot to add, I really want to have a trackIR or similar on there too so I can look around my cockpit -_- that would be very nice.

Personally, I would be elated if this game were a true simulator, even to the point of alienating console gamers. I have always been a PC gamer and started out in flight and sci-fi simulators. A true combat simulator, especially one from the Battle Tech universe, is too long in coming. This is one area that consoles simply cannot touch because of their controller limitations. It is my desire that the developers, already choosing to forsworn the consoles, will create a highly immersive simulator, and more to the point, do not cheat the control aspects of the game just so that they can attempt to include game controllers.

I personally intend to use mouse and joystick, maybe even a full HOTAS with pedals, always a dream of mine to do that in a Battle Tech Sim, but I want to see what will be supported before I invest in a setup.

I voted Keyboard, Joystick and Controller but only because there was no option for all of that plus foot pedals.

My rationale behind the choice is simply because I like to have options. In actuality I probably would play with much more than the Joystick and Controller, possibly the foot pedals depending on how they are implemented in the game. Also depending on how detailed the control scheme can be for the game sometimes joystick and controller simply don't have enough buttons for everything and a keyboard is required.

Keyboard and mouse. My experience with joysticks always resulted in my breaking them. And they just don't seem to have the accuracy of a mouse. In flight sims and even games like BF1942 where you have flight but it's not a true sim the joystick gives you some serious advantages over a mouse. But gaming mouse with a good sensor should give you much more control over the torso than a stick.

I run joystick & mouse.
Joystick controls my targeting, firing-groups, throttle, turning, counter measures, alpha strike, active/passive radar ranges.
Mouse controls active fire modes, aiming the torso, jump jets/coolant, anything else my extra 6 buttons can be programmed for.
I also have a set of pedals for a helicopter sim I play. Rarely use those.
I have my keyboard for special stuff.

Spent too much of my MechWarrior life playing on a joystick to turn to anything else at this point...

Well, there was one Mechwarrior game played with consoles in mind. It was called Mech Assault. Do you understand why console controllers can't work, now? B)

Joystick: Torso rotation
Pedals: Leg rotation (steering!)
Separate controller (throttle) - motion controls - speed, forward / reverse, JJ etc

Direct Neural Uplink via a Kendioshi G-64 with solid gold leads to a Hamurabi platnium lined socket. The internal chipset is also Kendioshi but the software is all pirated from US MilSpec. Get out the Texas Catheter and the hydration drip!

In MW4 it was Stick (right hand) for steering, weapon groups and throttle with the mouse Mouse (left hand) for torso, aiming, jumpjets, cooland flush, and comms. With various controls scattered around other stick/mouse buttons. If the controls in MWO are definable then no-one should hae too much of a problem linking them to their own preferred setup.

I would prefer Jostick and keyboard if the Torso turn is setted with an maximum rotation speed and not as fast as it possible to move the mouse cursor. If it is possible to move the torso with "infinite" speed I would use the mouse (*disgust*).

PS: It's not that I dislike people which use the mouse!!!!
