TTB May 2024 Patch Notes video:

8:06 "Or, if you're in a Dire Wolf as we have experienced just half an hour ago, ah I had leg seeking Thunderbolts. I got legged by getting hit with Thunderbolts. Not, not spread damage, literally um almost all the damage going straight to my left leg."

I can confirm this. It has happened to me twice on Vitric Station in my DWF-PRIME being fired down upon by Thunderbolts from a mech up on the top area. The second time just happened about 15 minutes ago in a match.

I can't find a Bug Report section on the forums so I posted this here.

LRMs do the same thing. Lock on missiles just nuke your leg the moment you give your side angle.

I was facing directly forward both times simply trying to do as much damage as possible, as fast as possible, to a major threat even if it meant I died. My left leg got blown off both times with my right leg being nearly unscathed.

Yeah this is common.

LRM's, ATM's, TB all seem to have just enough spread and angle of attack that magically drop enough to hit legs.

TB might only seem worse because it is lobbing a single 5 damage strike instead of 1 damage sandblasting.

I guess the question is why the damage isn't being evenly spread between both legs, but specifically targeting just the left leg.

Because it can't hit the leg being shielded? You're an engineer shouldn't you know these things?

Both times happened with me standing in B3, looking up at the corner of C3. I know because I remember that grey, triangular shaped corner piece of the building shooting up into the sky on the top level and the bridge with my targets waddling around up there. (1st Time: Annihilator, 2nd Time: Longbow)

As you can see from the pictures below, my big DWF was completely exposed. I don't remember my exact location down to the meter but I do know I was standing in this general position looking up at the corner of the building in C3.

If PGI wants to give me access to their GitHub I can rummage around in their code base to see what's up. Whaddya say PGI? Want to give me access? (Don't mind the fact that I don't know C, C++, nor C#. I know I can fix it in a jiffy. Posted Image)

Edit:
My right leg armor was yellow after both targets died with my left leg blown off. In the 1st encounter with the Annihilator a day or two ago, my left leg wasn't fresh so I wasn't surprised it was blown off but I was surprised that my right leg was still yellow. In the 2nd encounter vs the Longbow today, both legs were pretty evenly damaged and yellow. My right leg stayed yellow, my left leg got blown off.

Stop skipping leg day, bro!

Left leg is the leg that everyone reduces armor on so they can fit one more ton of ammo in the right leg... just saying.

My DWF has 99 armor and 54 structure on each leg. (Skeletal Density 9, Armor Hardening 10)

My suggestion is to get a few friends and do drops in private lobbies. Record multiple videos, use all the different missile systems, and test on multiple targets from different angles. Then join the Cauldron discord and post the videos.

It might just be an oddity with the Dire Wolf, but it might also be a more common issue.

In this screenshot your legs are twisted right relative to the torso, meaning the left leg is shielding the right leg. You can see this on the minimap. Probably what happened in the match as well.

Missiles track a central part of the mech (I'm not sure if it is a central bone or just central point, depending on the angle of launch and your movement, missiles do not autocorrect fast enough and will miss your torso and hit your legs. Some mechs are worse than others *cough* Night Gyr *cough*

I knew someone would over-interpret any screenshots I posted. No, when I was in match my torso was not twisted. I guess you think it's all in TTB's head as well.

Anecdotal but I've been experiencing this a lot as well. Though even without this, i just really freakin hate these weapons. But getting randomly legged out of left field doesn't help either.

because thunderbotls fire less missiles. and the thunderbolt 5 fires only one projetile.

Ya but both targets were assault mechs firing many many Thunderbolts.

Better to hit legs than nuke your CT :)

That is what is so confusing about Lockon targeting weapons.

They all track the CT.

But are they tracking the origin of the 3d model, the actual center of mass, the pivot bone of the skeleton .. what is the true target on each mech?

Without knowing how the geometry, animation rig, or code interprets, it is a literal guessing game.

I remember Streaks at one point did not spread nor did they randomly target limbs, so it was possible to twist and sacrifice arms and torso, because they always targeted the CT regardless of what is in the way.
