Hey guys, I cant believe the sudden boost in the community around mechwarrior games lately =]
I haven't played since MechWarrior 3 on the zone, but I'm telling you all this excitement wants me to bring out my old joystick agian.

MechWarrior Online looks rather interesting, how far will MWO deviate from the canon aspects of the orginal games?

Also, I just read the about the crew over at mektek, building a Solaris Arena game? Sweet piece of that's going to be, anyone check it out yet?

Welcome to the community Madam.

Take a look around the forums using the search function for specifics but I am sure your question of "deviate from the canon aspects of the original games" can be answered within 10-15 mins of reading B)

Seems similar to the original canon plots, I'm a bit disappointed about the single player campaign feature being removed. Although I appreciate and understand that MWO is focusing on the 'online multiplayer' aspect of the game, single player was a wonderful way for newbies to get a feel for the game before going out on the battlefield and getting creamed by veterans.

Also, are they going to go with 12vs12 as a maximum player capacity? I remember the old days with 24vs24-- now that was an intense battle play.

Right now they're slated for 12x12, though they said 8x8 could be possible if there are issues with that many players. 24x24 would be awesome, but we'll just have to wait and see how things play out.

I wasn't aware that technology had become that limited? Doesn't the current technology support that many players? Or is MWO waiting to see if they become popular enough to need 24vs24?

Wait a minute... why are there only 'official' houses and no clans? Sad day for my fellow jade falcons. Guess I'll be in the merc core then.

For now there are only houses. Let us not rule anything out. When it launches the game takes place one year before the clan invasion and time is planned to progress in real time (I.E. one day = one day). I think this was a compromise so that they could ease into things with an IS-centric game, while still allowing the possibility of the clans to appear. I really think the clans will ultimately be in, it's way too close to 3050.

They didn't give an explicit reason. This is quoted from the 2nd Q&A:

[MATT C] The current plan is for a maximum of 12 vs. 12 so long as we can ensure a solid play experience for that many players, otherwise we would fall back to 8 vs. 8.

It sounds like it could either be from technical limitations, or because of how play will be structured. I'm actually at peace with the 12v12 format, we'll just have to see what happens with it.

The current year for the game in which we will be playing in is 3049 so just before the clan invasion, the clans are unknown to the inner sphere until around 3050 but if what i have read is correct they will be implimenting the clans in some manner at the correct time so i wouldnt worry too much. *puts on camp German accent* Zere vill be NO deviatishun from ze kannon!

But seriously, it looks like the folks developing the game are trying to stay as close to lore as possible. As for the Clans, just wait and watch to see what happens. Like others have said, game time = RL time, and the game will kick off jusssst before the Clan invasion, so keep yer hats on till then.
