Why Does Heat Transfer From Destroyed Side-Torso To Remaining Heatsinks?

Can anyone explain why, when one of my side-torsos is removed, the heat from the detached heatsinks appears to magically transfer into my remaining heatsinks? I go from okay to overheating/shutdown/override shutdown immediately on losing a side-torso without firing my weapon and the only explanation can be that the game keeps the same value for the current heat and divides it over the remaining heatsinks (which makes no sense).

IS Light Engine and Clan XL engine will lose Heat Capacity when you lose side torso. So you still have 30 heat, but now it is 100% instead of 60%.
That is where override is sometimes useful, so you do not suddenly stop in middle of battle when you lose side torso.

yeah that ^
It's a terrible mechanic that doesn't make for interesting gameplay, it just causes the current "stare at STs & blast with massive alpha damage" problem worse

If you got Light Xl or Clan XL engines when your mech side torso gets destroyed you actually start pumping out 40% more heat as the shield casing starts to crack and pump out excess heat.

The original setup removed that 20% from the bottom of the HeatBar, which simply reduced total heat capacity but the players saw no immediate ill effects.. But get this, PGI did not enable any cXL ST penalty until 10-07-14, almost a 1.3 years after Clans were added to the game, AND 8 months year after Community Warfare went live, aka FP,.
all the while IS XL were dying to the loss of the first ST.
10-07-14 CXL 20% Heat Dissipation penalty - 1.3 years after Clans went live, 8 months after CW/FP went live.

12-04-15 cXL 20% Movement penalty

1-24-17, cXL 40% Heat Dissipation penalty increase

On 7-18-17, LFE was introduced with 40% heat dissipation penalty / 20% movement penalty.

12-08-18 PGI, Patch - Destroyed Heat Sinks and Clan XL / IS Light Engine side torso destruction penalties now removes total heat threshold from the top of the available heat pool rather then from the bottom.

Just to add, I am okay with PGI taking the penalty off the top of the Heat Bar, but I would also like the engines to be more in line with each other, include the IS XL not instantly dying to the loss of the first ST when the Heat Bar is sitting at or near 0%.
IS XL - 50% Heat penalty (Bulkiest)
cXL - 35% Heat Penalty (Middle)
LFE - 20% Heat Penalty (Less weight savings than the first two)
Also have moment penalty applied with different % rates too.
