I've been playing this game since Mech 3 in the beginning long before MWO, and I've lived through all the ups and downs involved with typical game play bugs, imbalances, sketchy updates on the rest of developing road bumps that happen along the way. But recently there is definitely some stinky water in the pond and I'm hoping I can get the bad taste out of my mouth before it's too late. Not for one second can anybody tell me there isn't some kind of hack (aka cheating) going on in the platform! I've played too many matches and talked with too many GOOD players before taking the time to write this to make damn sure I wasn't the only one thinking all of a sudden I instantly suck and 20 years of skill has regressed to complete rookie status. I have literally faced opponents at point blank range in my assaults delivering point blank blows and witnessing ZERO damage to the opponents and I've seen it happen with all weight classes. On the flip side I've also been destroyed by mechs, even by light mechs almost instantly with less damage required to even strip armor. It's not just me and I'm not wasting my time to write this because I feel like whining like a baby. I would like to think I can't be the first one raising this issue, but I'm certainly not going to be the last. I want to know, is there un-traceable hack in play here? What's the best way to know if there is? What's the best technique to report suspect-able players?... and not be considered paranoid or overly on-guard. I absolutely know what kind of force is required to drop every single mech on the battlefield, and right now that no longer is the case. There are ways to sniff out the stinky pond water and anything I can do on my end, I'm all for it.

Best way to know is to die and then spectate via that player
Best way to report is to click on their name on the roster, then go to report
However, whilst you/I can't always rule out less legitimate means, I think there's a good chance here that (at least mostly) it's the games hit detection issues that are at play. They got made worse about a year ago and there have been multiple threads since, usually concerning the weapon they get noticed most with. Take the being destroyed almost instantly example you gave, I would suspect this is the getting shot in the front but the hits registering on the back issue and then transfering from there.

Dunno about mechs killing you with less damage tho. Sounds like you're exasperated and being hyperbolic there, but yeah...sometimes hitreg simply doesn't work in this game.

People got caught cheating in the official tourney and nothing happened, just a handful of actual cheaters can ruin a game for a large percentage of the community and this game has little to no functional anti cheat. It's also a really old engine...

Large mechs with broad weapon mounts will suffer from poor convergence when trying to brawl with lights, particularly if you are not very good at aiming. Consider changing your playstyle to include faster mechs, and practise aiming. You can even just load up in the training grounds and practise jump jetting around and hitting the targets.
Or you can accuse everyone of hacking. That's also an option.

Its most likely not cheats, and just old netcode running at a snails pace in terms of ticks and client to server to client checks just can not keep up.
Host State Rewind isn't some magic fix either.
When you see your weapons hit a fast target, and then the target suddenly teleports 10-20 meters from where he was when you hit them, its pretty hard not to laugh at how bad it is.
Then you add in mechs with wide convergence points to the mix.
I still think crosshair auto_convergence is one of the big key issues throwing off aim much more.
Why?
Because you can't lead a target and expect to land consistent hits when weapon convergence is not tied to locking a target but rather at what distance your crosshair is aiming at, be it terrain, skybox, or building/clutter hitboxes ect.

I'd like to think that, but with the technical prowess of some of the things on market now I'm not leaving anything off the table. Yeah, it's probably bad net code, but I play other games where "things that weren't supposed to be technically possible" happened when it comes to people cheating. I will admit though, I'm mostly in the dark on this because I do not cheat and will not cheat in games I play.

In order to change damage numbers, I need to have access to the server itself, even if just remotely. I also have to add significant code to that server in order to alter things for just myself, excluding others. All of this is going to tend to be eminently detectable by the devs if they go looking - which they will, when people report me for not taking damage and whatnot.
So, you have to make a distinction between what could happen logically, and what is reasonably possible. You do this in other areas - I can tell, because you are posting on the forums instead of being incarcerated somewhere. =] Every accompanied minor you see could be a trafficking victim; every man (and/or woman) you see drinking with someone else at a club could be spiking their companion's drink; every person you pass on a sidewalk could be about to produce a weapon and go on a rampage... but are they? Not likely, and if you didn't make that distinction, you'd have gone looney-tune, or attacked someone yourself, by now.
When you look at all the things that have to happen, undetectably, to bypass server-side authentication, certain kinds of cheats simply become infeasible.

Its possible there's lag or someone is desyncing, maybe its connectivity issues on your side? MWO has always been a bit wonky with hit registration. I've had periods where shots register in the rear instead of the front of the mech for example. MWO is notoriously bad with higher ping, I stick to my continent, never play NA servers precisely because of this.
Its also likely that its power creep - plain and simple. The game has gotten to a point that where alpha can straight up kill or seriously cripple mechs. One literally has to peek for 1 second and get obliterated. Delete button builds are very real.
I've been playing for 11 years at this point...I've also gotten considerably worse at MWO lately and its hard to explain exactly why, but the best way to put it would be - I fundamentally don't like what the game was turned into, also very burnt out on it just don't have patience to care.
I feel very bold today hehe

Ghost hitbox, they displace their hitbox when RECIEVING HIT, then spoof to server didn't get hit, then ghost hit box restored to Mech geometry when not being hit. You're client registers a hit, but servers log hacker's client over yours.

Hitreg can sometimes become shaky, but it is very rare. More often on fast light mechs abusing MASC acceleration and deceleration.
Also regarding 20 years of skill.
yes. 20 years is more than enough for you to not only lose that skill, but to lose the ability to evaluate that you even lost the skill. This is not a trade or profession. This is a video game, and reaction speed and vision play key parts, both regress over two decades.
You lose the ability to quickly assess how much danger you are in, thinking you are being shot by one person, while being shot at by 5. You find yourself out of position more often, and you miss shots that you think you've landed.
It's called getting old. It's real.

Nobody was caught cheating.
Gotta love how many people are quick to hackusate rather than try to understand why they got headshot (usually standing still and staring) or got cored out quickly. Yeah, hitreg is a known issue, and it's easy to exploit in the right mechs without hacking. It's been a part of the game since beta.
