So, just my two cents about that new players are facing totally foreign ingame concepts that have no meaning to them...

Clans are such a foreigns concept to the common player that i feel it would need a dedicated effort to offer them a way into the franchise and especially the Clan era.

The IS way of things is more comprehensible to the modern gamer thus i would start them as IS Mechwarriors where they meet only concepts that teach them how to stay alive and move around in this universe.

Then you send them on a mission where they become in the outcome a bondsman.
Now you have the chance to teach all the foreign Clan stuff to them ingame as inamecontent that hopefully is done in an immerisve and entertaining way while they slowly adapt to the teachings.

As they are not a Canon Character you have the chance to allow individual character customization.

As Bondsman you have all game options including Free Birth Unit gameplay instead of the shoehorned Trueborn approach.

you have the option of becoming a Clanner in mind or stay a loyal Inner Sphere member and plan your flight.

And to increase playtime and concurrency it needs to have a narrative campaing inside a sandbox world like MW5 Mercs offers.

I had a similar idea, where you started out as Masson from Mercs, and while fighting against the Clans, the opponent you are fighting against recognises your father's Night Star you would be using. It would turn out this Clanner was a good friend of your fathers, and he offers to take you in, and join the Clan. If you accepted, he would take you as his Bondsman, teach you the Clan ways and such, and then later on, you would have to fight against your former Mercenary unit.
